I am seeing NO links from sites that I didn't put them on (thus, no co-op links) on MSN for Refrozen.com and I have 1600 weight. (it's been there a few weeks and I still see nothing, 100% weight on an uncompetitve keyword ("Convert iTunes XML to WinAMP M3U")) It's actually linking to http://www.refrozen.com/content.php?a=adis&id=14 but, that shows nothing either.
Weird Frozen. I've had my site on coop within the last week, and I have nearly 2,000 backlinks within the week on MSN Beta (www.search.msn.com) - I have a weight over 8,000+ I'm amazed at how quickly backlinks have shown against my URL - I'm just now wondering what impact this will have on Google..
I seem to be dropping like a stone ... anyone else noticing this... I enter the serp on a high position and then i drop like a stone... could be a coinsident ... maybe its just a temp thing... i ll monitor what it will do the next upcoming week and then report the results again.
MSN = great Yahoo = good Google = new sites not changing, old site possibly just divebombed today ... but i'm not sure if it's coop or if it's the titlw tags i added to links early this week. i hope it's the title tags
Well maybe its a temporarily thing... dont get me wrong i know what to coop can do. Take a less comepetitive keyword and i can rank first on the word the next day..but it looks as if the more links you add to more competitive keywords the worse you rank..
I don't know that I would consider that a theory with much weight (no pun intended ). Competitive phrase -> more links = worse placement? It comes back to the age-old argument…if links from other sites could "hurt" your site we could all link our competition right out of the serps. For example, do you think if everyone in the coop linked to dell.com with one of their ads with the anchortext Dell that dell.com would get knocked out of the #1 spot in the Google serps for the term Dell? I'm not suggesting that we try it, just throwing that out as an example of why allowing links from other sites to hurt the site they are pointed at wouldn't make sense…at least to me.
I know it doesnt make sense at all ... thats why i said it looks as if. But the thing is that i have been keeping tracking of the weight i add to my links and key phrases and the position they are on the search engine and as from now they enter high and drop/slight down low, till now... you would expect it to be the other way around right?
The only thing I expect from Google is that I won't be able to make heads or tails of how they place sites I don't doubt at all what you're seeing. I've seen similar scenarios played out with and without the involvement of the coop. 1) Optimize site. 2) Site rockets to page one. 3) Two days later site is nowhere to be found. 4) A few days after that it reappears a few hundred entries deep. 5) Climbs slowly for the next couple months. 6) Stabilizes in it's "final" position and just jumps a spot or two a day. 7) Google tweaks algo - repeat steps 2 - 6
I had an affiliate site just channel your description perfectly GFC- 6 months and finally some results for the interior pages. Other times I've shot right to the top and never moved, which is really baffling
Maybe if you'd try using a url that google would like, for example http://www.refrozen.com/convert-itunes-xml-to-winamp-m3u.html you'd have better results.
oh wow. I didn't see that before, but Google really doesn't links with "id" parameters. The reason is that a lot of sites that use the "id" parameter are for user id's and when people click on search results they end up not being able to get to the page without logging in. Consider dropping or renaming the ID parameter.
Just do a modrewrite of your links and a 301 redirect to the re-written pages. That should help your results.
So is it typical for backlinks to show up in MSN first? Will the same rankings achieved on MSN be on Yahoo and Google over time? Just wondering what you all have experienced with this....
The new MSN (or Yahoo) tend to report back links much quicker than Google…and also don't appear to filter reported back links like Google does. To answer your question about placement in the big 3…no, top placement in Yahoo or MSN does not (and may never) turn into top placement in Google. I place #1 for terms in Yahoo & MSN that I'm in the top 500 for in Google.
MSN is amazingly quick at showing up backlinks, I've been very impressed by how quick the links and internal pages are being indexed. I did a search on www.search.msn.com and found within a week that I have nearly 2,000 backlinks, the majority from COOP. How Google will deal with this who knows, we'll just have to wait and see.
Google still holds the majority share of searches. #1 placement in Google will consistently deliver more traffic than that same #1 placement in Yahoo or MSN - at least that's always been the case for me. Interestingly enough though, the combined traffic from a #1 placement in Yahoo & MSN is strating to compete - again at least for me - in terms of overall traffic when compared to a #1 spot in Google. A lot of that traffic I can attribute to the new MSN. How those placements and subsequent traffic will hold up has yet to be seen.
I now too see backlinks show up in MSN. 96 backlinks with a total weight of less then 1500. So, that's not bad I guess.
