I was very tempted to add this across my network of sites but ive heard some people have been sandboxed because of it.

Can someone clear up the whole "google doesnt like co op network" thing.

I have coop distributed across my sites, in conjunction with adsense.
I distribute one and the other with openads so I can select not to display both on the same page, at the same time, which is OK for Google rules.

Furthermore, I have sent google a mail to ask if it was OK for them. Their answer is clear : Yes, as long as one can clearly identify which is google and which is coop.

    cheers

I don't think there has been an issue with coop and adsense? and I think you have broken the coop tos by not showing them all the time. but I haven't read the coop tos in a long time...

    Concerning the tos: from http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/tos.html
one can clearly read the very point:

Co-op ad network ads should be the exclusive ad network used for that site. This means those sites are not able to utilize a similar advertising network (Google AdSense and other contextual ads are not considered similar). The main reason for this is to prevent users from overloading their own sites with ads and diminishing the overall quality of the sites in the ad network.

So, first of all, google and coop are not considered as similar, so, it may be correct to utilize them at the same time.
Secondly, it was stated in this paragraph that the reason why coop refuses to be on the same site than other ads program is that they do not want to overload sites with advertizement, which is a good statement. So in my case, I have some advertizing space to rent, so I utilize it as fine as possible, I rent it for two ad programs which will not be displayed at the same time on the same page, thanks to openads.

sounds like you are changing your points, but in any case.

If coop ads are not found on a page it will not validate.

The coop regularly checks to see that coop ads are showing on all pages for the domain, subdomain or whatever you applied to the coop with. If you are rotating other ads with the coop then eventually the coop bot will check a page and see no coop ads. Then your site will not be validated as running ads properly and you will be suspended till it is rectified. (I think I got that right)

I understand the concept, but I'm confused about some technical stuff... I'm not really familiar with php. (my site is pure HTML from MS Frontpage).
