In that case look at some sNews powered websites: http://www.solucija.com/home/snews-sites/ From the point of the look of your website, sNews gives you a full freedom to make your website look as you want. Other than that, sNews is a simple but effective and highly customizable (though some knowledge of PHP and MySQL will be needed for that -- or simply reading the sNews forum at solucija.com -- a very helpful community, you'd be surprised) one-file (means easier poking at it and customization of it) CMS. I'm happy with it.
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but the Dashboard module of Drupal does exactly this. It allows you to have any kind of layout you like. I am sure some of the sites listed here are using it: http://www.drupalsites.net/ I picked these two from the frontpage of drupalsites: http://new.savannahnow.com/ http://www.ueltje.de/ I bet you wouldn't have guessed what they run underneath.
Well .... for staters i found etomite to be the easiest... http://www.etomite.org - Installed it today, will give and update later on how it goes... a newbie speaking and this is my first CMS
sNews is a good one. I like that. I'm also a big fan of Website Baker ( http://www.websitebaker.org ) - this is a CMS that gives you complete control over layout, text, everything really. As an example: http://www.wood4floors.co.uk - I did this using Website Baker.
