Use Joomla or wordpress they are the best.

Do let me know if you need any further assistance in this regard.

building your own cms system is a great idea youll need to be prepared to put in about a months worth of work plus and learning time you may need as well to get this working at a strong beta level.

a personalized cms rises naturally. it takes alot of time and effort. its not usually what someone sits and intends to create, its more like something you just end up with. although i still believe anything is possible if there is any healthy intent. its really just a bit of storing and modifying data.

use any framework to help you with :) I'm using Kohana... It good because of HMVC and it can just help you not to write code again and again.

A piece of advise, if you wanna be a good php developer, I strongly suggest that you don't use any external scripts.
Relay on what you have learned so far, and you will learn alot during coding the CMS, it doesn't have to be perfect or fully featured in the first time, but you will get there eventually.
First, do a simple CMS, then do a more complex one, and that will help you a ton, and your confidence level will be heigher, and you will be able to do alot of great things after that, and the ideas will rush into your mind.

yes i think so too, building a good cms isnt that easy thing, a lot of code lines and time is needed. Starting with a simple cms would be a good start, on time you can add new features and options but take it slow, do not think to finish it in a week or a month :p
