CMS from Scratch

    Hello,

So, I would like some base prices on what it would cost to have a CMS built up from scratch. Let's say I give the coder a list of functions that the thing needs to have, and he just has to code it.

How much would this type of thing cost? (We are talking PHP and MySQL) And of course I want a very experienced coder.

Think wordpress or joomla or drupal.

    Regards,
    Nick

If I think wp, joomla or drupal, your bank account had better be big.

If you want something like those, use them and hire a dev to modify to suit your needs. Reason to go with a custom cms would be (among lots of things), to provide functionality that doesn't exist in the existing CMS(s). Or you plan to do so much modification to the core files of the CMS, you might as well do it your way. I'd add, building a custom cms as a base system for site(s!) is a good way to go.

Or for better performance. These CMS have many options a website never uses, this causes bloat on the server. Bespoke CMS's provide a streamlined solution built to the clients requirements.
Pluss, Lets face it theirs enough clones out their already.

    Nick.
If you want to directly compete with wordpress or joomla or drupal. Then you would need many thousands on hand.
If you are looking for a CMS to suite your business needs a custom solution that ticks all of your boxes. Send me a PM or mail

If you want to get a prototype of WP, Joomla, forget about it ! CMS built from scratch is a completely new way of thinking and dealing with functions - it can't be copied from somewhere else, or it will not be "made from scratch" ;)

Here is a couple of reasons that I want to do the custom CMS thing:

    • If I was to modify wordpress for my needs, it would be very extensive. The CMS I need is not going to be about blogging or posting articles. It's set up for a very specific niche
    • Modifying Wordpress or another CMS won't allow me to cell the new code (at least that's what I understand of the GPL)

Of course, I realize that this would be very expensive. The CMS that I want to make, is very much like Wordpress, but again, cators to the people that Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, cant. Well, I think joomla might be able to, but you got to know your way around it. I want it so simple so that anyone that knows how to check their email will know how to operate this. It will also need the ability to have custom themes, exactly like wordpress.

As far as my budget goes, I think I can get anywhere from $3000 to $5000 to do this, but I need a coder who is willing to stick around, and do it. After it's done, I also don't want him to disapper.

Anymore questions, comments, suggestions, I'd love to hear them

    Regards,
    Nick

Could you send me a pm with some brief information about this custom CMS you need? List of desired functions etc. We might be able to work something out.

    Regards,
    Richard

I'm interested. Drop me a PM with your budget, an outline of what you want the CMS to do, and what the time frame completion is.
