I'm starting a men's interests blog. When researching keywords, should I go with keywords that are highly searched but also highly penetrated already, or keywords that have a low search value and a low penetration, or something in the middle? Also since my blog covers a variety of topics: cars, women, investing, sports, etc. which keywords do I go after?

Find some keywords that are highly searched and low penetration. They are there, they just take some time to find ;)

Then once you are ranking for those (and getting some traffic/revenue) start on the harder ones.

Spend twice as much time researching keywords than doing anything else for a while, and you'll have a big list of keywords ready to target.

    Hope that helps

Thanks! I've already found some really good keywords to use. Another question though....Lets say I start ranking very well for Keyword "blog" (just an example) and then i start trying to rank for keyword "fitness"......wont the decreased % of the word "blog" bring my rankings back down again, since I'll then being using "fitness" more, and using "blog" less?

Keywords are easy to find everyone is looking to better there websites with good keywords but only a few succeed as this is a long process and you have to keep on top of this game with tweaking for months but you will see results in a few months time
