Cloaking Pages with Adsense

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by SHT, Mar 22, 2005.

    Hey,

Is it against the google TOS to strip down the page just showing the content (No design or outbound links) for adsense? My site is a forum, and the adsense is always relating to parts of the design, links etc, not the actual posts, if I cloak the page just down to the posts, is it against the TOS?

    Thanks,
    Greg

I'll tell you like I told my niece, "It's not nice to offend the Googlebot."

The AdSense TOS require (point #1) adherence to the AdSense Program Policies which require adherence to the Google Webmaster Guidelines which states:

Well put...it's not worth the risk and in clear violation of TOS as Bernard says. Not sure what level your at with AS, but I can say if you continue to develop your AS campaign(s) you will not consider this tactic. In my view it's a little on the shady side.

The question you should ask yourself with any technique you elect to impliment is...'Is it honest?'

Your site is under construction, that is a TOS violation too.

You should do a Mod Rewrite on your site, then Google Adsense Bot could read it.

I already saw forums using "google_page_url" variable to point to low-fi versions with more content and less markup. You need to check if it is OK with ToS...

Changing the google_page_url would be a clear violation of the TOS since you are not allowed to change the javascript in any way (unles you have a special arrangement with Google).

Cloaking is clearly against the TOS but you can get smart and fill in the description and keyword meta tags with those relevant to your content, not the layout. AdSense bot seems to take metas into consideration, unlike the regular Google bot.

    Good luck!

Yeah I have found with the right tags and set up you can overcome those forum keyword blues.

Also doesn't help to rename some of your paths to things besides forum and post and such..
