They said, "I must also request that you remove the link to your site from the bottom of each post."

So you are not allowed to sign posts with your business name which links back to your site? I can't believe this. Has anyone ever heard this? I think this is nuts!

I doubt that the email was actually from wordpress.com but that is just my opinion.

Yeah, probably from a competitor! :)
I think your client must have missunderstood something...

Well, we emailed them first and they responded with this statement. I have the guys name and the email properties are...support@wordpress.com.

I emailed through the support system to ask if this was right. I am sure they will support him. I will PM anyone the link so they can tell me if it looks wrong, but they are only doing what I have seen on every other blog!

Does the link lead to a legal site?

are there any links in the email? Check them to see if they link back to wordpress.com and nothing else. Check all of them.

Sounds like a scam to me.

    Col :)

No. Here is the whole thing...

"Looking at your blog, I must also request that you remove the link to your site from the bottom of each post. We generally don't allow commercial content on WordPress.com including affiliate links, adverts, and paid posts. A link to your site in a sidebar or About page is allowed.

    Regards,
    Guys Name"

I didn't know that signing your name and having that link back to a site was a problem. It isn't like they are blogging about nothing. They have really great legal information and tips, but are giving credit to whichever attorney writes at the time. I didn't think that was a problem.

Well, it's true that these rules _logically_ should only be applied to ads, affiliate links and so on, but I guess it will be hard to argue with them :(

I think that if a post has some good information there's nothing wrong in mentioning the source.. However, if the blog belongs to the business, just a link in the sidebar should be sufficient, no need to put additional links in each post.
It's hard to say something without seeing the blog, by the way :)
