Clicked an ad by mistake

I was editing my home page and as I was trying to change a cell color I realized I was in preview mode in my editor and.... well you know the rest of the story. I quickly closed it before it was able to fully load, but I am sure it registered as a click, as that is how my luck goes.

Ive never done this before, so I immediately emailed google. Anything else I should do?

1 or 2 clicks shouldnt be a problem. They will just ignore the clicks.

Make sure the advertiser gets his money's worth. Buy something from them or click their ads.

Don't worry, it happens all the time. Google just doesn't pay you for that click. They block the IP of the machine you use reading the reports or they use a cookie to do same thing. I'm positive that they were aware of click fraud before they started whole thing.

I've done it many times. There's no big deal, you just don't get paid for such clicks.

I did it the other day - in fact I clicked in the space between two ads to bring the browser to the front without realising it was a clickable area.

I emailed and got the usual canned response from Colm at adsense support. Is there more than one person working there? :)

I've done it before and they've never stopped a payment yet. Just be DAMN careful in the future (and I will install that Greasemonkey plugin that stops you clicking on your own ads). *Kicks self*

I have done it too. Just emailed G and got the standard "Thanks for letting us know and don't click on your own ads" lecture.

I have a problem that when I'm on my laptop and I touch the touch pad the wrong way (while the cursor is over an ad) it will click the ad. Very annoying but it happens!

Wouldn't be too worried about it!

I've done it a few times. The last time I got a canned response from the form, (but with a person signing), but then a week later, another one from the "team" that was a little more stern. It got me a little paranoid, so, I wonder if it isn't better to not say anything at all.

Happens all the time? No wonder I see so many "I got banned" threads here.

Here is the response I got, havent checked out the link they advised me to yet though.

But I never emailed them and I am still active and getting pad. They just do not give you credit for that click. And that's it.

Well, that is fine if you want to go about it that way. As for me, if something ever happens that gets me banned outside of my control, I can at least plead my case with evidence to show I have never purposely cheated the system.

In the business world, even if it is adsense, documentation is important.

There's not problem there! Few clicks won't ban you, I'm sure.

Anyway, they'll surely ban only those who abuse...

Even if they ban you, Google is not the only adsense-like provider...

Kanoodle is a good one and pays more!

I wish they'd let us click our own ads without fear, even if they don't pay. Obviously, the content on my site is stuff I find interesting, and because AdSense is context-sensitive, I am often presented with ads that I *really do* find interesting, but I cannot click on them due to the TOS. The AdSense advertisers are missing-out on *my* targeted interested because of it.
