Can I get some feedback on what is CLICKBANK - link hijacking? If I own and operate many website and use clickbank link on my websites, HOW would someone hijack my links? what should I be looking out for so my sales are not hijacked. Can some explain in detail how link hijacking works?
Clickbank link hijacking basically means that someone replaces your affiliate links with theirs, and as a result steals your commissions. A common method, which is recommended to protect the links is to cloak them, which means use HTML or PHP redirect. So instead of http://affiliate.publisher.hop.clickbank.net , you will have something like http://www.yoursite.com/go/productname (it will redirect to your hoplink, and then to the merchant's site)
Are you just adding a index.php in the "productname" folder? or is it like a .htaccess or what? An exmaple would be much appreciated.
GREAT I understood all this ... but how would or how can some hijack a link on my website.... If I have a link on a page ... no one should be able to change it ??? Yes I can cloak it ... but how will someone change an existiing link..???
You can do both ways. I personally do with adding a folder. Find out more here > http://php.about.com/od/learnphp/ht/phpredirection.htm I have no idea how they do it. That's some spyware, malware stuff...
no ... the last cookie survives in clickbank ... so ... the spyware/malware realises they've gone to XYZ product page and downloads the hijacking cookie onto the buyer's machine ... hey presto, they get the money. (that's one technique anyway) clickbank is the last cookie ... that's why review sites etc are so popular.
You don't need to make actual folders, this "path" (virtual path) can be acheived using .htaccess and php. If you want an example i can dig one up.
You could simply cloack your links which is a good way to get started at least.. Plus if you have a wordpress blog, UPDATE the latest version.. this is critical.. or else this way people could hijack your commission
Hey dude, can you please elaborate on the wordpress and hijacking commission comment? How can others hijack your commissions using an older version of WP?
i don't remember the specifics ... and probably best to not go into them too much actually, in case anyone decides to try it out ... suffice to say, with the older versions (i think we are talking the likes of 2.3 etc) in certain situations with the right conditions and knowledge people are able to gain access to the files via a backdoor and make changes ...
Whenever I start a new campaign promoting Clickbank products, I usually generate sales on the first day. Then, I'll go a few days with no sales at all. I pause my campaign for a day and then resume my campaign in Adwords. Again, I start generating sales almost immediately. Then, a few days with no sales at all. I've done this a few times, and every time I pause and restart my Adwords campaign, I seem to get sales. By the way, I use domain forwarding in Adwords. My clickbank affiliate link is not used a destination URL. For example, www.mydomain.com is forwarded to my clickbank affiliate URL, www.clickbank.hop.net. Is this just a weird coincidence or could somebody be hi-jacking my commissions?
I've never understood why people are so obsessed with wanting to have a link cloaked. If a person is buying a product, they will know at the end that they are buying through clickbank. The cloaked link isn't going to avoid the buyer from seeing a clickbank order page. Therefore, if someone is already an affiliate with Clickbank, your cloaked link is not going to make them buy through you. They are still going to buy it through their own affiliate ID.
