I would work at 1:40, that is a pretty good number especially if it has a high price point. It really depends on niche, costs, and sales page. I have a few product that I am converting to 1:10 while others I get 1:250, a lot of it depends on luck due to the massive amount of variables that can be involved.

I'm up to about 450 hops with no sale. My site is one page with links to the affiliate site / page.
I don't have any review or anything just a recommendation kind of thing.

No that is actually quite good. Either the recommendation sucks or the traffic quality is not very good. In the recomendation are you basically saying this is the best product buy me? How are you driving traffic?

I purchased an expired domain which had a trickle of traffic to that specific niche, I then wrote 3 articles on the niche
and distributed them to about 50 different article sites. I thought my lead in page wasn't too bad but please give
me some advice if you can, I would rather share my site via pm if it's ok with you.

Sure I can take a look at it. You should install GA so you can get a better idea of traffic source. The traffic could just be very low quality if its an expired domain.
