Click Fraud Warning

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by factchecker, Oct 14, 2006.

    I had about 5 accidental clicks on my own ads as I was upddating some of my sites. I was scared that Google was going to cancel my account but I quickly emailed them with an explanation and apology.

    I luckily just got my most recent check, but, i am afraid to edit my pages in fear that I am going to accidentally click again.

    Any suggestions?

    I've clicked by accident on my ads before (promptly reported) but after you've clicked on them more than 5 times I'd say that's a little careless?? Be more careful or remove your ads when you're updating.

    If you report it promptly and it's not excessive they will not ban you.

    You should try adlogger.com if you are seriously concerned about clicking your own ads, or code up a simple PHP script so your own ads arent displayed to your IP. 1 Click? Accidental. 3 Clicks? Careless. 5 Clicks? Downright sloppy.

    I am always flabbergasted by these "I accidentally clicked . . . " threads.

    Maybe it is just me, but I am never surprised by the look of a page that I am working on -- only annoyed when it does not look like what I intend. And AdSense blocks on my pages never confuse me. I look at the page and see the content and say, ". . . Oh yes . . . An AdSense block. Don't click."

    Now, if I were using blending strategies which make AdSense look just like the "real" content on the page, I might make a mistake. But, I think I would be smart enough not to be fooled by my own coding.

    However, when I am in page development mode I normally change the account information in the AdSense so that it will only display PSAs. Making the change is simple. Change the google_ad_client segment in the AdSense javascript code into:

    google_ad_client = "pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx";

    Don't forget to turn it back to your actual account number before going live!

    This means that the constant displaying and refreshing of the page will have no impact on AdSense page impressions and I I can freely click on any part of the page to see that it works. Although I never need to click on AdSense PSAs to see if they work. But, that is just me.

    Dont ppl have to actually buy something from your banner before you get credit?? (Or all you have to do is click it for you to get points??)

    nope, adsense is CPC (per click) , other networks like azoogleads are CPA (cost per action, or purchase)

    Both times I've clicked on my own ads is when I've been editing a page directly on the server and while editing have actually seen an ad that I'm genuinely interested in & had a brain fart and clicked. Needless to say, I don't edit directly on the server anymore....

    Get Firefox and use the extension linked in #12!

    That way you will never be able to click ´em again...
