Click-fraud via proxy?

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by Michelangelo, Oct 24, 2006.

Hello and welcome to this thread.

I just readed an article, about an Adword costumer who stopped his campain, because he lost much money and he thaught, that the reason was a competitor who used different proxies and clicked on his adsense ads.

If you use a proxy you normally get a different IP adresse or not?

Is this whole story true or is this guy only nuts? What do you think?

Would the clicks really get valied?

It's not that simple. Only using proxies would get you caught. Google checks referrer, user agent, IP, CTR, traffic patterns. Someone would need a very sophisticated bot to get away with click fraud.

Exactly. Google also sees your OS, screen resolution, and browser. 40 clicks from different IP addresses all running Windows XP Home, Firefox, at 1024x768 who visit the address directly are going to look very suspicious. Google are not idiots.

A hacked version of JS or a browser could easily spoof your os, screen size, etc.

or you can delete your cookies from Internet Options in IE
They are very sophisticated. They probably know that you did click fraud, but they will not ban you because they are losing money. Only for very serious cases they do

many adwords customers complain of click fraud. especially those who are new to adword. chances are, most of the those clicks came from the content network which has a very low conversion rate. by default, the content network is active and has the same maxcpc as the search network. be carful when creating new accounts. if you arent detailed in your setup you can throw away alot of money. it isnt click fraud. its adwords growing pains.

Javascript can easyly send your real ip to google,

If you disable it, then you can not see google ads.

there are some softwares that designed psecialy for adsense wich randomly choose and change proxy from a proxy list.

but google already blacklisted 99% of those open proxies.

As an adsense publisher, I can say that any attempt at click fraud is just plain stupid. I make too much money being honest with adsense to risk a ban to make an extra few dollars. Heck, I won't even tell friends or family my web addresses, less risk having them click on any of my site ads.
