Was just reading about the execution...article here if anyone wants to read it. http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/12/13/Williams-execution-051213.html
In Texas we try to do our part. I think we 40 or so last year. It's like we're carrying so many other states on our shoulders when it comes to executing people.
SOME LAST WORDS Excerpts From an Interview With Stanley Tookie Williams - "My faith sustains me. I don't crack under pressure." Two weeks to the day before his scheduled execution, which is set for 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Stanley Tookie Williams sat in a cramped visiting cell at San Quentin State Prison and talked for 90 minutes with Adam Liptak of The New York Times. ... On Death Row: "I've never seen a millionaire here." "You're surrounded by a motley of different characters. Within the madness, there are those other than myself who have opted to redeem themselves. read more
I just follow some discussions in Europe. Looks like an Avalanche's on the way to death penalty supporters Not to DP here but to the states. Some even think that america is even closer to a civil war then ever before.
First, thanks for all the red reps! Keep 'em coming! That's because millionaires (usually) have enough sense not to commit horrible crimes. People are way too easy to forgive in my opinion. When someone goes missing, or you hear of a little 9-year-old girl rapped and murdered, everyone always says: "he needs to be....executed, dead, rapped, whatever" But after a year or so, when these rappist and murderers have supposedly "changed," every person with a heart thinks the death penalty is from the devil. That little girl will never live again. That mother will never have her daughter back. That family will have to live with what happened forever. Sympathy can't be given.
People should be less concerned about the punishment of MURDERERS and more concerned about stuff like innocent people being held in prisions. Shit, everyday, 35,000 children under five die of hunger or preventable diseases resulting from hunger. The US has only killed about 1,000 people in the last thirty years through capital punishment. Let's see.....1,000 dead criminals....or millions of dead and dying kids....hmmm...
ok now he is dead, do you think that will change anything, bring the people back who where killed all it does is lower society to the same level as the killers we need to kill the people to show that killing people is wrong, and if we sometimes kill the wrong people and become muderers ourselves then it worth it to show that killing is wrong. Texas was still executing retarded people as of 2001 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1354042.stm Something you texans can really be proud of
That's a very good point Rob. 35,000, wow... that's terrible. I didn't know it's that high, and it's everyday!?!
That was a good comment. ferret, You can't say it is murder to execute. Murder is to unlawfully kill with hate or malice. This is not about emotion. And it isn't against the law. The person commited a crime and must be punished for that crime. It's more business then personal. He did something and, in return, he recieved punishment. It's not murder, it's execution.
What about when crooked stacked courts find innocent people guilty and execute them? How is that not the same as a murder?
If it can be proven that a prosecutor, cop or whatever else broke the law and in such a case was the main reason or contributing factor to putting an innocent man/woman to death I personally would see it as a great case for the death penalty. Make them think twice before trying to pull such a stunt...............
In Canada we don't have the death penalty, but many times, after the sentence is served, these muderers go free and kill again. What I think ultimately has to be done, here and everywhere else, is these people need help. They can't just toss them in jail, such as here, then let them go free down the road and expect they won't offend again. They need rehabilitation, they need psychological help, couseling, something and if it's decided they can't be helped, then a life sentence, but never DEATH. It's against God. God has the final say over our lives, we do not have the right to kill another person regardless of what they did. Sure I get very mad myself and know of many murderers I'd like to see dead but to make it some mandatory thing, is just wrong. It's not our decision. Either provide them with treatment or a life sentence to keep the public safe. However, I will not argue this.
That's how terrorists think too, not against a single selected person but the whole society though. - I'm not comparing you with terorists - don't get me wrong... But what's the difference? Hey Man think it over again, a planned killing of a human being is murder, whether a majority is for it or not.
Are you kidding? It's not even close to terrorist mentality.... A terrorist mentality is closer to Mafia mentality.... *If we can't get the one who offended us we will kill your Friends, Family and anyone else that we can* Eye for eye, tooth for a tooth, live by the sword die by the sword.... You choose your lifestyle... this is what happens if you choose the wrong one. Some people are beyond help... God works in mysterious ways.... maybe this was gods say for tookie
