Is it better to advertise online or through a newspaper? More specifically, does online advertising work for small businesses?
both work, it depends if you are particularly targeting local advertising or more further afield. You will find that newspapers are 10,000% more expensive. Why that is I don't know, i just throw them in the bin James
I have placed ads for my websites on craigslist. I might only get like 5 uniques from it over the course of 30 days, but you never know who those 5 people are. Usually I place the ads in the general community section.
I think advertising your add online would get you more traffic than in a newspaper. By advertising online you can choose the group of visitors and so on… yeah this is a hard one…hmmm I think both ways would help, I think it would be also cool if you advertised via a newspaper.
Online advertising is much much cheaper. If you do it right it can work much better than newspaper ads.
It depends on the product/service. If I were advertising a strip club, I'd do it in newspapers. If I were marketing womens body scrubs and lotions, I'd do it online.
Online classifieds is a good option to advertise. Normally it is free and you do get some traffic from there. Newspaper is too expensive and troublesome.
As Rob was saying, who is your market? Locally, you might only be hitting as few as 500 people depending on the size of your town. With online marketing, you can target sometimes specifics which might be better in the long run.
Craig's list is free, but filled with spammers' junk. I doubt if it is effective. Newspaper ads are not that effective either. If you are interested in online advertising, you may try do some searches at Google or Yahoo, related to your business. This way, you will find your competitors' web site, paid ads, online promotion, etc. That may give you some ideas as to which routes you may choose.
