I have recently started posting to gumtree.com and was shocked at how much traffic i was getting from this classified site. Its free to post to, and depending on what your niche is, there may be a category for you.

Does anyone have any other good traffic bring classified sites? Gumtree seems to be mainly focused on UK. I have tried craigs list, but no success there..

I never had much success with gumtree, craigslist been the best so far. that could be because of the location as well.

you might try webcosmo.com as well.

I've also had great success from posting on Gumtree - I've actually had lots of enquiries through it and most of them have stuck, I must admit I've been very suprised with how effective it's been.

Other sites like VivaStreet have provided me absolutely nothing though :(

eBay will allow you to post classified ads, however, you have to pay for them. In my opinion, eBay is better than Craigslist, so I would recommend using eBay. If you are selling an item, you can use either an online auction format or a fixed price format, which are more cost-effective than the classified ads, however, if a classified ad is more suitable for you, then eBay has that available.

    there's also http://www.usnewspapers.com

It offers free online classifieds too.

    Did someone mention usfreeads.com?

Craigslist -- I only just realized that because of their geotargeting my ads may have never run -- so no wonder I didn't get any results with them, and neither did a lot of other people.

The best way to find out which ones work for you is to try them out yourself. It's a little time investment, but can be worth the effort. Sign up for the various free classifieds sites and put a few articles or ads out there. I use Hypertracker to track all my stuff. I'm pretty finicky about tracking, because without it, you have no idea where your money is going or coming from.

Just go sign up and test everything yourself. Most of these sites have a free option.

I think posting on classified web directories is good for instant traffic and targeted visitors.
but not so good for SEO campaign especially in long term.
