Clarification on "bumping" rules

I'm hoping that a moderator, admin, or perhaps one of the more established members could provide a little confirmation on "bumping" rules within the BST forum.

If my thread is advertising a digital download store which offers a range of products, is posting details of newly added products, price reductions, special offers etc considered bumping?

I'm constantly creating and acquiring new products for my store; so this is not a case of me just slowly releasing details of an established product list (which personally I would consider to be bumping).

Each of the new products I add could justifiably be promoted in their own seperate threads; however my intention is to avoid cluttering up the sales forum by keeping all new announcements and updates to my store confined to a single thread.

Any input, confirmation or clarification would be appreciated.

Well making new threads for newer products is fine, posting over and over in one thread isn't.

Whenever i add more domains to my network i just make a new thread with more details and more features, posting over and over in the same thread creates a false image that the thread is still active on the title as advertised and when they come over they find something else, so that causes irrelevancy anyway.

Double posting, or posting in general about new services in your own threads is also considered bumping.

Also when i did what you are doing now i ended up with 8 infractions (thanks -name removed because i dont wanna end up in a dumpster-:) ill be sure to send the aliens over) and yes it is against tos lol

    hope that helps :)

In this case, the original thread is advertising the store itself, rather than any specific product/products; so relevancy is maintained with posts about new additions to what the store offers; and the original post title remains applicable (again, because i'm promoting the store).

I certainly understand the issue of double-posting; however I interpreted this as being okay providing the posts were relevant/reasonable and not just attempts to bump the thread (such as PM Sent, Still available etc)

Just to note, i'm not posting this to argue for/against this method; merely for confirmation so I can avoid any problems in the future.

Well if you see that the last post on your thread was from you, then don't post on it again. simple as pie (cherry)

I was always under the impression that the question of double posting was dependent on the nature of the post, and not that it was a zero-tolerance policy.

Not disputing anything; I guess my interpretation/understanding of the rules on the issue may have been incorrect.

Thank you for taking the time to reply =)

my understanding is that it is acceptable to add more products and information to a thread as long as it is more than just a word or two like ( Tin of cat food 1/2 price)
    that would be a bump.
if you add a substantial post with maybe 10 plus lines on new products and changes, then it would not be a bump. as that is a substantial change and update.

adding 10 one line posts in a day will get you 10 infractions and a ban.
adding 10 lines in one post is a major update as long as it's not 10 lines on a Tin of cat food

    [EDIT]
as to double posting if the edit button is there, then you should use that, if it is over the 8 hours, then you can post as a double post for one of the afore mentioned reasons.

This is a tad off topic, but I am sort of glad DP has a no bump rule. This helps keep things from being a free for all like some forums I know of are.

Thank you for posting in this thread Katy; what i'm really looking for is clarification on whether the types of posts i'm referring to are legitimate updates or are automatically considered bumps because they may be double posts; regardless of their content.

Again i'm really not looking to cause trouble or anything with this thread; just want to make sure i'm doing everything by the book.

To be honest, posting seperate threads about each of my products when they're released would be more beneficial to me; but I always thought it would make more sense to just announce them in one thread to avoid cluttering this forum section up.

I contacted Katy to ask her to reconsider the closure of this thread as the links to the FAQs etc didn't provide any real clarification (since the subject at hand is related to whether a certain type of post constitutes a bump; rather than whether bumps in general are allowed); and she kindly reopened it to allow me an opportunity to get more insight on the matter.

Snapplekid13, If you look at your thread, you could have edited the post above and not double posted.

All a private infraction means is that the post receiving the infractions was deleted.

kingcaw: You recieved your latest infractions because you posted 3 times in a row. Sometimes it's better to start a new thread instead of bumping your old thread. I myself had to start a new thread because my thread was on page 5 or 6. But make sure you don't start 10 threads at the same time selling the same product, otherwise they will be counted as duplicate threads. And when you start a new thread, make sure you request your old thread to be closed. :)

    I'm single. :p
