Hi everyone so i decided to open a blog. However i don't really understand if i have to always identify where i got the information from. For example, The New York Times publishes a story relevant to my blog so i decide to include it in my blog. Obviously i won't just copy and past the story but do i still have to say something like "The New York Times says ...." Thank you and i am sorry if this question might sound stupid but i have no experience with blogs.
your question is not stupid. Its the basic thing for every blogger. Don't copy paste the whole news. Read the news and rewrite in your own words and give proper credit to source of news. for example if you pic news from BBC then write that "according to BBC" and also place BBC news link on your website.
Rewriting is the best way to do. Rewrite the news article and you can include at the bottom of the article some sources of the information or news.
It's actually great that you are conscious of online copyright violations, which is more than what I could say about many bloggers! Ownership on the Internet always goes to the person who first created the content, so it's common courtesy to cite your sources and give credit to where it dutifully belongs. Saying something like "According to this source..." or even putting the owner in (brackets) can go a long way to generating respect and good favour with other bloggers, especially if you want to be taken seriously. If you are rewriting something from scratch, citations aren't necessary since you created the content - unless you take a vital piece of information that can only be obtained from a particular source (like stats or pictures).
exactly great and having most of best conscious online copy rights are there, it is the suggestion to make some fashion blogs which are having some good PR and actually very soon
Always cite your source. It builds up your credibility and doesn't piss off others when you use some of their words...
Always cite your source and never use more than an excerpt ( paragraph at most) verbatim. Companies like the New York Times are very litigious. (they can and will sue you for copyright infringement) .
It's ok to use a quote here and there from someone else, just don't copy and paste whole articles. For safety and best practice, you should try to cite the source whenever possible...especially since they're trying to pass SOPA which I'm pretty sure will greatly affect stuff like this. Hope that helps!
Yes you have to. You don't have to have experience with blogs to know this. It's has to do with laws.
