What's your citeria for a (adsense) profitable website ?

especially for a first timer like me.
should it be base on popularity on the internet ?
or base on my interest/knowledge but low in popularity/searches.

I'd say you should just create a website about something you are interested in. It will be easier to write things/generate content about something you like than it is about something that you feel is dull.

It would be best if you choose a topic that gets a decent amount of traffic AND you are interested in.

    Good luck.

Yeah, if you're going to run a website, you'd better like the topic, coz you'll have lots of content creation to do. Or, of course, you could hire someone to do it for you.
And, needless to say, you'll need a decent amount of quality traffic. Without traffic, you are going to make much out of adsense.

Hey are you seriously planning to earn out of it? Dont do it in rush.

Make a solid plan. Create a project, build a site, add content, optimize the site, give some time regularly and popularize it.

Keep an eye on stats. Once you start getting visitors, you can put adds and monitize it ;)

looks heavy? no worries you can follow simple ways as well

yes thanks and i get your point here.
it is easier to start a website which i've existing knowledge with.
but what if the subject is not the most popular.

will it be better if i research into a popular content and built a web site
    around it ?

yes..as above. it'll be more fun infact to built a website i'm interested in.
perhaps just to gain enough experience and then i'll move on to the next one..
traffic are still impotant for a profitable website though..
so it's a dilemma here.. heh

If you want traffic with SEO, popuar topics will be a problem.
Try to find niche with not so much competitors. Researching the best niche for you and profitable is the hardest job in AdSense.

-Do something you enjoy or try something new (it is more important to enjoy being a webmaster or an entrepreneur)

    -Stick to it

-Learn your visitors and monitor your traffic

-Everyday do something with your website (whether it's modifying a page or exchanging a link)

-Manage your time (don't spend too much time in forums like this one, but wisely allocate your time, give yourself about 2 hours a day for forums like this one and about 2 hours a day to tend to your website...make the rest of your day yours...rest, family, work, and recreation) - It's important to manage your time, because it is easy to become a junkie and addicted to the internet! You will find yourself checking your Adsense earnings every 10 minutes. Manage your time

    -Wait your turn!

I would say cover more than what you enjoy, cover multiple topics because a related topic might be much more valuable. You might be into Albanian banjos but Mexican guitars (especially those big mariachi ones) might do much better with Adsense.

Also look at things you hate. If you have a day job, look for where money is waisted by the company. I hate waste. My "things I hate" list is where some of my best clicks come from. :)
