Citations of a website in scholarly articles

    I noticed today that Google notices when a site is cited in scholarly articles and it even writes the author, if mentioned in the citations.

    I wonder if this affects the SERP in any way, especially Google's "trust" ranking.

    My feeling is that it probably would help. I don't think Google would display the extra info unless it felt the information was valuable to searchers. It's likely that the site would have to be trusted before Google would extract the extra info.
