Church in the Co-op?

I'm thinking about helping out my church with their SEO, and wondered if using the Co-op for it is wise or not?

And what about Link Exchanges in general? We'd obviously only let certain sites in, but if the site is of different faith is that wise?

What would you do if it was your Church?

If it was my church all mentions of other religions would be banned. Just incase my religion wasnt good enough and they decided to convert away..

Seriously ? I dont see it as an issue.

Religious (and political) ads aren't specifically banned like gambling, porn and pharmaceutical ads, but there is a grey area in there. So if you want to run those types of ads, they are going to come under much tougher scrutiny in the review process, so just be smart, and think about how your ad would look on other people's sites and how it would be perceived from other's point of view.

Why would religion be a grey area?

I have purposefully kept my Christian website out, even though it is a PR5 and has over 17,000 pages indexed. I looked through some of the ads, and some are questionable in my view so never added them. I won't ad them to my church site either.

Well if I understand the co-op correctly you can advertise a site, with-out having links on that actual site. I believe you can build weight by having ads on site 'A' and 'B' and have ads in the co-op for site 'C'. (correct me if I'm worng as I haven't started with co-op ads yet)

rurbaniak - heh I was going to post the exact same jest about 30 mins ago (never finshed my post)

I Plan on trying to get ads for my church (www.Christemple.org) with anchor text Phoenix Church. I can't imagine a problem with that ad.

However - their must be a bit of review as SOME so called "religious" sites can promote violence, hate, human sacrifice, drug use, even pornography - I imagine these would likely be denied for inclussion...but I'm just guessing.

Out of curiousity (Shawn or co-op adimns) do you think the ad and URL I mentioned would be approved..? Do you think it would stir any problems with co-op users..? If not what can I do to make sure it could be as I touch up the site constantly.

    URL: www.Christemple.org
    anchor: Phoenix Church

I wasn't thinking about that...is that the type of "religious" sites that would get banned?

It's more the ads people would try to put into the system (and run on other people's sites) than anything else.

For example... ads promoting something like the Ku Klux Klan or something (an extreme example)... could be considered religion and/or political, but they are not going to be approved.

Good on you ! Just out of curiosity how do you decide? Personal judgement?Have you set out guidelines ?
    i.e would a political party/ candidate be ok ?
Is it dependent on their 'message' ?

So many questions, but I am just wondering, it must be reasonably hard to decide one way or the other.

It's all judgement calls... I don't deny stuff simply because it's not my viewpoint. Just try to use best judgement for what people would object to (as a whole).

Yes, I'd want to improve in the SERPS for "Grace Baptist Church" to make it easier to find us. It's a very common name for a church.

I know what you mean...I have my church listed at 22 in google and #1 in yahoo and msn for "grace community church" which has 2.9 million results...you have less than a million to beat :)
