Some of you are probably aware that Christopher Hitchens has cancer. In this video he talks about his disease, people praying for him and the chances of him making a death bed conversion (or the fabrication of a story about him making a conversion). Seeing him look so weak from the effects of chemotherapy is frightening. Comforting to see, once he starts talking, that he is just as strong a lucid as usually. http://www.theatlantic.com/national...talks-to-goldblog-about-cancer-and-god/61072/
that the amount of knowledge we have is not enough to be completely sure that there is no sacred being. it would be irrational to premature if we dismiss God because we are lacking a thorough knowledge of the universe.
Of course. But only in the same way and to the extent that it would be "irrational" to claim to be completely sure that fairies don't exist. You disbelieve in fairies, right? What about goblins? I mean, you can't be sure they dont exist, there is a lot of the universe we don't understand yet, but you do disbelieve in them, don't you? Something even more illogical is to assert the positive. That is, in light of the same knowledge and the lack of proof that something doesn't exist, to then claim it must exist. How about the opposite. Is it irrational, given the amount of knowledge we have, to be completely sure that not only does a god exist but that you have picked the correct one from the correct ancient text - if this god even has a religion? You seem to want to say something is a good point while doing the exact opposite of what the point says. Or is it only the atheists who should abide by reason and you are entitled to make it up as you go along? Stop holding people accountable to standards you are unwilling to be accountable to yourself. What am i talking about, that's what religion is all about - Do as i say, not as i do. I'm sure Christopher Hitchens illness and possible death will bring out the filthy little rock dwellers again, like it always does. Scum threatening him with eternal torture if he doesn't accept their particular stupid little story before the end comes. Scum who will claim god gave him cancer for being evil, as though only atheists get cancer and scum who, after his death, will fabricate lies about a death bed conversion as some kind fabricated appeal to authority. There is nothing more distasteful than lying about a dead man, yet they seem to do it every time with everyone from Darwin to Einstein. I'm sure some filthy little liar is making up the story right now waiting for Hitchens to die so he can spread the story with the help of theists - who know damn well it's a lie - who post this kind of chain-mail style junk on forums. I know how little you like reading and answering questions put directly to you, so i have bolded the bits that id like you to address.
I haven't thought about it, I don't believe in them although I could be wrong. P.S. your picking and choosing like how the religious do with the bible. no one is claiming "must" I do believe in a God but i could be wrong. your making stuff up. The religious can have reason.
No, i'm applying the logic that you agreed with to every claim of disbelief. Your claims aren't entitled to special treatment and concessions. If that logic applies to a disbelief in god, it also applies to a disbelief in fairies. Something which you disbelieve in. Is your disbelief in fairies an illogical one? If not, what makes if different to my disbelief in a god? Considering neither can be proven or disproven. How am i picking and choosing when i'm applying logic that you agreed with to all instances where something can't be disproven? That's the opposite of picking and choosing. Picking and choosing would be to, oh i don't know, claim the logic applies to one rejection of an assertion that hasn't been proven and not to another.
Good, now factor in the religious belief that there is a higher power and your knowledge about this topic would be changed. stox would you welcome prayers that are positive for you like Christopher
Will you be applying it to your disbelief in fairies? Still not grasping this simple point are you. I wouldn't, and neither is he. What he said is he wouldn't take offence to people praying his recovery.
We did. It's just you have a tendency to make things up. Could you at least wait until he is dead to start lying about him?
.....a death bed conversion. Hitchens knows perfectly well it is how he lived his life that matters - having fought evil is the basis for judgment and there will be space for him if warented irregardless his final beliefs.
Not according to christianity. According to the bible the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy, something Hitchens has done a lot of. How do Christians feel knowing if their heaven exists Hitler is in it and Hitchens will not be?
My dad died from cancer, and that's why I'm afraid of this terrible disease very much. I can say that the chances of Christopher Hitchens and 50/50, because one my friend has been cured form cancer and is alive.
Christianity does not exist beyond their flawed book - sin does not matter, conquering evil is what counts - sin can exist without evil......except in heaven which few reach and may not want to for that simple reason. An Edenist point of view.
