I like a live tree, that's why I prefer to put up near 20's December. But my mom got artificial pine Christmas trees and she has already put it up) So it is only your choice)
If it was up to me, I'd do neither. Waste of energy. But when you have a family, you do what the Romans do.
My wife starts decorating outside and inside the house during the long Thanksgiving weekend, especially if the weather is nice. Up here in New England, if you wait too long, you might be battling snow, ice, vicious wind chills, etc., as you try to decorate outside.
