Christmas slump for noncommercial sites?

I'm seeing about a 25-30% slump in visits to the website since last week. Mine is a noncommercial site. I assume that the commercial sites, with products to sell, are booming this week.

This is my first year on DP and my first year tracking statistics. A question for others with noncommercial websites: Is this traffic slump in the pre-Christmas week typical for our kind of free-information sites, as people are tied up with shopping, preparing for family gatherings, etc.?

Thanks for any input from your experience.

Traffic has been down all week for me. I think its just the typical christmas slowdown. Its pretty normal. Christmas eve and day are the worst, then it picks back up again.

heh well even for commercial sites depending on what they sell are probably seeing a slump the closer that we come closer to christmas.

my site went from an avg of 30 orders a day to around 8 orders a day. lol

    good luck.

    The Winter Doldrums

I run B2B sites and December and January are always the slowest months in terms of traffic and sales.

It's a good time to do site updates and maintenence....or just chill at DP. ;)

1st quarter is usually pretty good to me as people prepare for their spring gardening. I got a trade show in ATL to go in January, Vegas in march for a show and I want to try and get to chicago this year too, so its a busy few months come january.
