Wow when I read that book it feels like I'm getting more powerful

    Strange but true

I've seen this same kind of thinking from a lot of different sources - Think and Grow Rich, the Secret, etc..

I just bought it on Amazon. Only 6 bucks.

More power to you aletheides..! :) It will open your mind to a whole new world.

I wasn't trying to sell it haha and from my research, the author is long dead so he's not profiting from it any more. But it's definately the only book I've ever bought twice! :)

...and I do believe that's where The Secret got it's idea...

It can arise through natural, unguided mechanisms though.

Why the laws are how they are is still a mystery. It isn't evidence of god though. To claim otherwise would be a god of the gaps fallacy.

god is just an English word to describe the supernatural force that controls our lives. Sorry, there's no escaping it except to close your eyes, but I'm afraid you've already done that. I still enjoy debating with you though. :)

If I threw a coin into the air, what chance does it have of landing on tails?
The fact that it did land on tails and I won the million dollar bet - is that order or chaos?

I believe that all along the way in this thing called life, chance played a gigantic part of how we got to be here in the form we are today. Let's say, it started with a great big bang which formed certain atoms which then went through a serious of 'chances' and created the world / universe as we know it.

What about all the stuff we don't know about because 'chance' fell the wrong way? What if we were born with 4 arms & everyone else was, wouldn't that be the 'natural order' of things?

It's all too arbitrary, this so called 'order'.

Considering you thought a vase falling over some how suggested that dead people live in another dimension I'm not surprised you find evidence for extraordinary things in very uncompelling places.

It's one thing to have an open mind, It's another to have a mind so open that your brain falls out.

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

    Daniel 4:37 (King James Version)

I would read the whole story if it interests you.

Yeah I don't see why people justify religion with quotes from their own religion. Makes no sense.

The more I study physics, the more I am forced to believe in the presence of God. Just think, if the charge on an electron 1.6X10-19C was just a fraction different, the whole universe would be a massive soup. I would never argue that the bible itself should be taken literally (especially the old testament), but one night when your out in the wilderness, lay back and look at the stars and ask yourself if you really believe that all you are is the result of some fluky evolution and are not something more.

jaob70, why things are the way they are is remarkable. But there is an enormous list of explanations to invalidate before "magic sky man done it" becomes the most likely one.

In the end I think I'll take Pascal's wager and be done with it, after all if you are a true christian there is no harm in believing.

Better hope you picked the right god then. Or are you just assuming that if a god does exist it would have to be the christian one?

by the way, can you believe i got an infraction for my last post?
