I am a fan of Giordano Bruno and there actually some evidence that my family is descended from him.

What the people in the Catholic Church did to Bruno was horrible. I don't know if you could call it "hypocrisy", but certainly the people in the church at that time murdered Bruno. But it's important to understand that not everyone agreed with what was done to him. See, I don't see things in extremist terms.
Thank you. I strive to live my live with clarity and courage.

I have absolutely no idea what that means.

Personally, I believe that this pope protected some pedophiles.

Um, are you off your meds? What kind of a rant is that???

Yes, the Dark Ages happened. It was a huge economic depression. Has the Catholic Church ever denied that the Dark Ages happened? Has it?

Also, absolutely never in history has the Catholic Church ever claimed that the earth was flat. I dare you to show me when the Catholic Church ever claimed the earth was flat. Can you show me a cite when Catholic Church ever claimed the earth was flat? Show me a cite when the Catholic Church ever claimed the earth was flat.

And again you show how ignorant you are about Catholic catechism - unlike other branches of Christianity, the Catholic Church doesn't teach that the flood actually happened. Unlike other branches of Christianity, the Catholic Church considers itself a true branch of Judaism, which does not teach that the Old Testament is historically accurate. It's the lessons learned that are most important.

And, for the record, I never claimed that the Catholic Church is perfect or that it does not contain some people who are just as bad as laypeople. But the Catholic Church has a history of comforting the sick and dying, and feeding the hungry. The modern Catholic Church is intent on correcting it's past sins.

"Catholic Charities USA" consists of 1,400 different organizations that feed the hungry, comfort the sick and dying, care for abandoned children, and combat poverty. To do this, it spends over $2 Billion a year. @Helvetii, does this mean ANYTHING to you?

    Are you serious?

An abuse hotline set up by the Catholic Church in Germany melted down on its first day of operation as more than 4,000 alleged victims of paedophile and violent priests called in to seek counselling and advice. The numbers were far more than the handful of therapists assigned to deal with them could cope with.

So now you accept that it happened? But its not worthy of discussion? Didn't you just called my posting about it a "bigoted lie"

LMAO! How many times will you say the same thing?

That's good, who said that christianity is bad or christians are bad? They are very nice people. The topic of discussion was "Christian Dark Ages" but you didn't want to discuss that and steered this discussion by personal attacks and by implying that I'm anit-Christians. Seriously if you are not up for a discussion better find some other thread to troll.

P.S. Look up the meaning of the word "hypocrite" before using it in every line. It seems to be the favorite word of people in P&R, though not even half of them know its meaning.

O.K., time for a history lesson, because you really seem to be clueless on this issue.

Your "bigoted lie" is blaming the Catholic Church for the Dark Ages.

The Dark Ages was a period in European history of cultural and economic stagnation. It occurred because, when the Roman Empire fell, there was no longer a central cultural and economic force.

The Roman Empire brought to Europe a system of common laws and a common currency. When the Empire fell, law enforcement collapsed and when the Roman denarii became worthless, there was no longer a trusted unit of central currency, which resulted in a completely stagnant economy. Understand?

Look at your own invented graph at the beginning of this post. The Egyptians, the Greeks, the Roman Empire, all had central units of currency. The European Dark Ages had no central unit of currency. How can a continental culture advance without a central unit of currency?

The Roman Catholic Church feebly attempted to provide centralization - however, without a common currency it's attempts were mostly corrupt and incompetent. Also, with most people living either under independent feudal lords or in the countryside, the Catholic Church's influence was fairly weak.

The Dark Ages ended when the Medici in Italy created modern banking, which led to increased European trade, which led to the Renaissance.

Is this too intelligent for you?

Because I like showing how wrong you are! I totally pwoned you on this point! The Catholic Church NEVER said the Earth was flat, did it? Will you now admit that you are lying on this point?

I'm not implying that you are anti-Christian, I am coming right out and saying you are anti-Christian.

You are blaming the lack of a central European currency on the Catholic Church.

    Pot. Kettle. Black.

There are criminals in the Catholic Church that many in the Church are attempting to deal with. This hotline was an attempt to deal with it.

Now, I'd like you to acknowledge that the Catholic Church charities comfort that sick and dying and feed the hungry. Or would you rather they not do that?

I have better things to do than be concerned with your bigotry. Why, have you been thinking about me all this time? How sweet :)

??? when did I claim that??? And I can see that being wrong is making you tired.

Moon Landing Hoax - about 2,230,000 results
Earth is Flat - about 70,800,000 results

    Why do you think that?

I'll take that as your concession.

    Let's see -

You claimed the Catholic Church killed Galileo - FALSE.
You claimed the Catholic Church claimed the Earth was flat - FALSE
You claimed the Catholic Church was responsible for the Dark Ages - FALSE

For you, this discussion is like classic Black Knight moment. You know, that Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail? I've cut off all your arms and legs, and you're still trying to fight a battle you can't win. The Truth just isn't on your side, is it?

Yeah I know even he's a moron, didn't all the popes have PhD's in sciences?

    Please.

That page has less credibility than a Geocities website. And absolutely nowhere does it cite anything in the Bible that can even be remotely inferred that the Earth is flat
    ("firm, immovable" ≠ "flat")

Quoting people as way out on the fringe as you are makes you look increasingly desperate. Give it up.

I'll take a university site to have more credibility than a geo cities page.

Anyways you accept that the bible says the earth is immovable and everything revolves around it? So god didn't know about the world he himself created? Sweet!

A personal page on a University website? ANY student or even alumni can get that! And you can write whatever you want on it! And you've resorted to that because you have absolutely no official reference from the Catholic Church claiming the Earth is flat. Or that the Church killed Galileo. Or...

Look, you're a desperate bigot and you've been pwoned.

    Deal with it.

I'd like to see their books and examine the percentage of money donated being spent on what it should be spent on. Then I would love to see what is done with the rest. As far as I can tell, there is no official entity supervising their accounting procedures.

I have recently learned that the shriners only spend 4 percent of money raised for their hospitals on the hospitals and the rest goes into their own pockets.

Do I praise them for what they do with the 4 percent? Of course not. It's theft.

I highly doubt 2 Billion USD is even 1 percent of the annual Catholic budget worldwide.

I'm sorry, but to me this is a rip off. Was a church planned to be a business? In the old days?

I think we've come too far in listening to propaganda designed to drive us into accepting organized religion and nobody holds anybody accountable.

If it's God's money, then spend it as scripture teaches.

I am not isolating the Vatican per se as this insanity takes place everywhere. But I do believe the Catholics are the worst.

And promoting them as someone who is doing something positive is something I cannot do considering that it is not their money they are spending and that they are hording a huge amount of dough which could in a heartbeat solve all issues of starvation currently occurring in the world if they wanted to.

Not only does the Catholic Church have an history of discouraging development in sciences but it continues to do so even NOW. They have been trying to stop stem cells research, cloning and many other things which would mean a great deal to humanity. They oppose womens rights by not allowing abortions. Something tells me that if there weren't rule of law they would happily burn them too.

What does the church have against science?

You have a history of being wrong.

Are you just making things up, too? Is that why you don't have a cite for your B.S.?

"Approximately 90 percent of all money spent by Shriners Hospitals for Children each year is dedicated to patient care and research."
    - Shriner's 2009 Annual Report

For those of you that don't know, "Shriners Hospitals for Children® is a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment with no financial obligation to patients or families."

Blogmaster would rather these children suffer, wouldn't you? And Helvetii thinks the Catholic Church wants to stop the scientific research that heals these children, right?

Very funny of you to answer only the part of my posts which you find convenient with an answer irrelevant to the topic.

    Pot. Kettle Black.

As far as the topic, isn't it obvious that I've already pwoned you on this topic? Fall of the Roman Empire, etc? Isn't it convenient that those facts squash your B.S. like a grape under a steamroller, hmmm? Would you like me to review the parts of my posts you have hid from?
