*sigh* The bread represents the body of Christ and the wine represents the blood spilled for you. 1. [ The Lord's Supper Instituted ] [Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:17-20; 1 Cor 11:23-25; 1 Cor 10:16] While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and [Matt 14:19] after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 2. Mark 14:22 [ The Lord's Supper ] [Matt 26:26-29; Luke 22:17-20; 1 Cor 11:23-25; Mark 10:16] While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a [Matt 14:19] blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is My body." 1 Corinthians 10:16 When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ?
It is a very odd ritual to say the least, But it's one of things that people do without thinking about what it means. It is definitely a symbolic cannibalistic ritual, There is no doubt about it. It could also be said that it has a homoerotic aspect to it. The idea of consuming a mans flesh and drinking his bodily fluid has a certain euphemistic quality. I only have an NVQ level 4 in psychology, But it's not hard to draw a connection.
very interesting - the perception of a sexual aspect to it?? wonder why they have excluded a "drinking of a Living Water" ritual in the churches- that would be a fun here is some stats: http://www.sexinchrist.com/oralsex.html
