Most likely he will ask you why you aren't doing what he is doing, citing scripture as his reasons, and then proclaim you a "non-christian". See what happens when people deem others to be 'not christian' based on their own interpretation of a primitive, poorly written myth? Like i said: You can decide who you think lives by the correct (yours, i assume) interpretation of the bible, but you don't get to decide who is a christian and who isn't.
As a Christian and a member of the Church, I have an absolute view on who is exactly following the Christ. There are those who use Christianity as a mask for their own personal gains and there are those who are living the true faith. I have had experience with different kinds of Christians and non-Christians throughout the world. True Christians are filled with the holy spirit - god's given spirit that show us the way and righteous path when reading the holy bible. There are no interpretation. We know what we read and we follow it. The bible could mean a myth to you but you do not know how to read it. Just like an Engineer reading a blueprint... it could mean nothing to you unless you are an Engineer or in other words Qualified. You'd have to understand, there are steps towards reading the book of God. You can't simply open it and expect wisdom without taking those steps first. Love in Christ
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT) "If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB) Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB) If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT) A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB) Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB) They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB) Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT) But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB) 1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB) 2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT) One day a man who had an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father got into a fight with one of the Israelite men. During the fight, this son of an Israelite woman blasphemed the LORD's name. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother's name was Shelomith. She was the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan. They put the man in custody until the LORD's will in the matter should become clear. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take the blasphemer outside the camp, and tell all those who heard him to lay their hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death. Say to the people of Israel: Those who blaspheme God will suffer the consequences of their guilt and be punished. Anyone who blasphemes the LORD's name must be stoned to death by the whole community of Israel. Any Israelite or foreigner among you who blasphemes the LORD's name will surely die. (Leviticus 24:10-16 NLT) As it is obvious everything that Muslims are blamed for such as killing for homosexuality and adultery and the use of stoning as execution method, they have actually copied from Bible. Now Luke, be a "good" Christian, listen to your God and start killing people.
And his is just as absolute. Your particular interpretation isn't entitled to special treatment. If you get to decide who has got it right, so does he.
Here we go again...someone else trying to justify Christianity as terrorism by reciting from the Jewish Torah or the old testament. Different rules and different times. I am deliberately avoiding to answer your previous silly statements because you proved irrelevant in this forum. Let me ask you this then... since you picked the punishments in the old testament, why did you also ignore these? 1) God ordered the people of Israel to sacrifice lambs for forgiveness of sins in the old testament. 2) The separation of man from God in the old testament but reuniting in the new testament. 3) Divorce was allowed in the old testament but not in the new testament. 4) In the old testament, Oaths in God's name were allowed but not in the New testament. As true Christians, we do not sacrifice lambs, do divorce(unless it is due an adultery), oaths in God's name ... etc. There are many more and the discussion goes on. Most non-Christians do not understand the purpose of the old testament and what it served. The answers to the above 4 points will get you to the answers to your original questions. If you're actually interested in knowing the difference, I would be happy to explain them to you and what they did serve.
More to the point, why didn't you? Like most so called "christians" you pick the bits that justify what you already believe in and ignore everything else. The bits you cherry pick become "the word of god" and the rest becomes out of date. See why your interpretation isn't actually worth shit? Luke, do you oppose homosexuality because of your religion? if so, what bits of the bible do you use to justify it?
The Christians who's will was the abandonment of the Saint in his hour of need have their own deed to mend in acquiring remittance - they have no scriptures pertaining to the true Gospel of the Garden.
Please get rid of your ignorance first in order to understand my Argument. What you and gworld did above is exactly what you said. You picked the pieces that you can use to falsely attack Christianity without understanding. That is why I replied... Did you answer my question? My point was...we are not living the old testament anymore. This is a fact and not an interpretation. Jesus came with the most precious sacrifice and that included new rules. If you feel Christianity has something against homosexuals, that is your opinion. No I do not oppose homosexual people themselves but as a concept because I do oppose "sex before marriage". Since most homosexuals do engage in that and most of them are not entitled to legal marriage or marriage by the Church, then it seems fair that I oppose their concept. That doesn't mean I will go out and murder them. PS- While I do encourage freedom of speech, I do not welcome insults and the use of low dirty language. I am giving you sensible answers like a gentleman and I expect the same.
He picked bits of what you believe to be a divinely inspired text. We think it's all bullshit. See, the people who disbelieve in it's validity can pick out bit's and say "look at this bit, what complete crap". It's the ones who believe it who have the problem because no amount of good found in the text can outweigh a single barbaric abomination, such as murdering adulterous women, when the debate is about the validity of the claim that the text is divinely inspired. What you are doing is the equivalent of saying something is flawless and when someone points out a flaw saying "well that's only one flaw, look at the bits that aren't flaws". We can cherry pick text, you can't. Feel free to expect whatever you want.
Let´s see if Jesus understood old Testamant. "The Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35). "the commandment of God" (Matthew 15:3) "Word of God" (Matthew 15:6). "Until Heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished" (Matthew 5:18). But I am sure he was just saying bunch of BS and you as "true" Christian know better than him.
This is nothing new. The Crusades are the most prevalent example of it, but not the only one. Like OP said, happened in Canada too but that was Catholicism. Depends on how broad an umbrella term we want to use for Christianity, so I'll just say that Abrahmaic Religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam). Together, this powerful trifecta eradicated all sorts of Pagan religions, swept them up in hell-fire is what. Not to mention the burning of the library of Alexandria. I forgot who was responsible for that one, but it's one of the big three. Gets confusing after a bit because all the big names are used in the three books. Anyway, point is Christianity isn't alone. They're all pretty bad.
What about the pope's decision to condemn contraception in Africa, which helps the spread of AIDS. Couldn't this be seen as terrorism?
It wasn´t for my sins since I wasn´t born when he supposedly died and I like sins and continue to "sin", so he didn´t stop me from doing it either. In fact we can say that he died for fu*k all.
Can you prove please that Christianity is a religion that supports violence? Can you please also show us examples that Christ used violence?
One of the largest organized terrorist groups in history was actually Christian based... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan
Against sin indeed - ...... Forgive them - not exactly an endorsement for being crucified. They know not what they do - disavowing their / the saints relationship to the participants. In short, there is no basis for Christianity nor Judaism in regards to the execution of the Saint, is the actual outcome for the last act and their involvement or lack of.
That is funny. So in your opinion Christians go out with masks and burn the cross? Our very holy symbol for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Like I said, K.K.K were a bunch of idiots trying to use Christianity as a mask.
