    Greetings,

I was wondering how to select the best website design for your site?

For example, what colors to use, the positioning of the font and headlines, the photos to use, etc... Or is website design really not that important?

Fyi, I have a ebook im trying to sell. I already sold some but trying to sell more. My current webpage is so bad, i need to scape it and start over.

Design is really important but the right design depends on the site - so your "best" design for an ebook sales page will be different to a plumber's "best" design.

I see the most experienced marketers using the same splash page for selling their ebooks so I guess they work. Culturally down in NZ we cringe when we see those pages as they look like scams but in America they obviously work. You need to see what works with your target market.

As for colour, culturally that will differ too. In NZ give something a black and white banner and we feel all patriotic. In Australia you'd do yellow and green. I'm guessing that in the USA the bold use of red, white and blue triggers subconscious feelings of trust.

When I see the profile pics of older guys from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh they are really formal while the younger users are alot more relaxed, fun photos. When picking your photos you need to make sure they are relevant to your target market.

Design should be related to the product you`re selling, making it stand out, the design being the detail that makes your visitors want to see your product. Look at your competitors and try to imagine something better than what they have.

Have a look of other designs in your niche (competitors). Note their good points and then make your own list in addition to things which are missing in your competitors site.

I recommend designing a website on the WordPress platform. you will have access to thousands of professional looking themes associated to your niche and many of these are free. What will also make your free website unique are the WP plugins that you will have available to customize your site. Just do a Google search for WordPress and you will find the themes, plugins and training you will need to get up and running.

If you plan to have only a couple of pages I would suggest using plain HTML in combination with JavaScript if you want to make it fancy. Poorly designed websites make me close them nearly instantly, even those with low readability don't grab my attention for too long since it's painful to keep reading them.

sarahk gave you the right advice and matches my opinion... try making it a bit different than other e-book websites because I tend to close them as soon as I recognize the pattern since half of them are some scams or selling a bunch of hot air.

Only additional advice would be to hire a professional that will give some thought into the design instead using slightly adjusted theme. Another thing I would suggest is to pick the colors related to the subject you are writing about rather than targeted country.

When I started RobAid it had a good (and a bit generic) design and it evolved through time, so don't think you'll end up with one-hit-wonder even if you get a great initial design.

Design is very important, especially now when competition in network is growing. Page must present one big project, so everything may be related with each other - main page with sub. Colors can make to the company logo, font and size selection is also important. Page must be nice for eye, if internauts will feel good on your page they will back.

    Well,

Most important thing in website design is simplicity. Keep the important things in focus.
Have call to action to button so it will leads to sales lead, beside having pleasing color scheme.

    Hope this will help you.
