Chosing a wrong category can cause rejection in paid directory and no refund?

I submit www.dirwizard.com to one directory as regular link into a main category for luck (feeling guilty now) and rejected without refund.

In my opinion, the owner can change to the category he want. But rejection without refund because of wrong category? at least I never did this.

    what is your opinion?

The submission guildlines do say "Please choose a proper subcategory, not a top level category for your link." However I don't see where it says "Submission fee will be lost"

How hard is it to change the category?

I think the owner should refund payment.

    Thanks Brian

Its a bit OTT in my eyes, takes all of a few seconds to change category or create one.

The submission guidelines in my directories are there to help guide and inform but if their no completely followed its not a big problem for me.

You wouldn't have that problem with me, i even negotiate with submitters over appropriate categories to sometimes find a good solution all round.

That said, as usual, its the owners choice, just we all have different ways.

It is one pure way to build a bad rep for a directory. I guess they can do it but it would not be smart for them to do. He should have changed the category or at worse, made you resubmit. Sounds like greed and chances are the directory will fail.

Personally I would have just recategorized the submission appropriately.

It should have been moved or a category built unless he seen that the site
submitted was not quality to his guidelines then i would wonder what his deal is.

    thx

I can see both featured and regular listings in the top categories. So that should not be the only reason for disapproving the submission without making the refund. Maybe he haven't received paypal notification. Anyways very unprofessional approach indeed.

The ethical thing to do is to return your money. I know the storyline though... You paid for a review and got a review. Still, that's not good business in my opinion.

If you are looking for low cost reviews with deep links, please check my sig. I do allow top of category, providing it is related.

if the guy said that all the payment sent to SelectIndex for a review are non-refundable then it would make sense because you did make a mistake (intentionally) and submitted to the main category even when on the submit page he/she gives an example specifically regarded to directories.

But he should return the fee because he doesn't state that all payments are non-refundable. File a dispute.

indeed I submitted my site and paid the review fee a few days ago (I paid through paypal for sure) and got the rejection email today.

However I just received an email from the owner questioning "did you make a payment" and saying that I can resubmit my site again if so.

He could just check his paypal to confirm payment, so why such a response from him?

I responded him with the same answer as you. Now the problem settled.
Hope all directory owners are responsible to the client.

Well, this should be a lesson (or two):

    1. follow submission guidelines
    2. email the site owner first before airing the laundry

It seems the rejection might have been OTT, but some(often?)times these things can be worked out.

Your opinion is wrong. The final topic placement in any reputable directory is up to the reviewing editor. The submission fee should be refunded however if you are not happy with the service.
