Choppy FTP connection to shared server environment

I got a $7 per month plan on a server and I have a problems with FTP connection. I am trying to upload a 20MB file with multiple folders and files in it and the connection is very choppy and I literally was not able to do that since yesterday.
Does anybody knows how this work? Do they just impose some kind of limit on the connection and there is no way to get around that? This is a major obstacle and can get frustrating etc...
    Thank you.

    Hello there,

You would need to check with your host to find out how they have things configured. How well does the website load that is hosted on that account?

Website seems to be working fine, but I was told that I would need to upgrade the account in order not to have these FTP limitations. By the way, I am trying to run a few low-traffic websites on a level of about 5 Wordpress installations (that comes down to 5 databases, 60-80MB space). Does it really sound like to much for the type of hosting that I have (I paid $75.00)? I just want to get an idea of what I can expect somewhere else, and if possible I should get out.
    Thank you.

You get what you pay for. Might be time to look at getting a smaller VPS plan. Get off the shared hosting environment and have your own dedicated resources. If you are not ready for that step yet, then I would find a new shared host (although why move from one to another). Souds like you are going to need to pay current host more just to get a solid ftp connection. hmmm, doesnt sounds right to me.

They told me at HostGator that they've seen more than 30 Wordpress intallations on a Baby plan (which is about $7 per month) and there is no ftp limitations etc. At least thats what they say... I talked to my hosting about it and I'll see how it goes. HostGator has good reputation too, and the price is the same so I have nothing to lose. But obviously it cant be like that, that people have hard time uploading 5 or 10MB to a server. There is a Level 1 VPS at HostGator (just to relate to something here) that costs $20 and it comes with 10GB space so wtf would I not be able to upload 50MB (5 Wordpress installations) and have 5 databases and run it all with no problems?
I am sure there was something wrong with this. I was breaking this files into directories and uploading it one by one, and then I had to go down to sub-directories not to lose track where I was when the connection was stopping / slowing down etc...

You are correct that you will not have this problem with HostGator's Baby plan. What web host are you currently using that has set these FTP limitations on your account?

I don't think it's ftp problem. Usually it's a network problem. The choppiness can happen anywhere - your ISP, data center, one of the routers within the network, etc. Try zipping up your file and upload using FTP client - one single file upload. Then use file manager to uncompress the files. That's what I do on my Hostgator plans. Works fine.

The problem is in the network IMHO.
