Choosing the right market to advertise to

I have a website that has relatively little competition. However, the market is rather unknown for the type of website also because of the lack of big name competition. Should I try to compete with big name big PR sites with an extremely similar product that has a very large market, or should I push my site into pioneering a new product and hope that enough people find out about it that word will spread? Thank you for your opinions.

Go for the niche, unless you think you can afford to compete with the big boys.

If your idea is good and you present it well, people will take notice. Build it, and they will come :)

I agree with WillB to go for the niche product. You should always start with a niche and build on it if you really want to compete with the big boys.

If you try and compete with the big competitors, you might not be able to see any *fruitful* results for at least a few months. So you might not be willing to take that risk. With a niche product, you can be sure to see some results soon.
