I am trying to choose a name for my blog and want to include one of my keyword phrases in it, but also have a URL that reflects exactly what the blog is about. However, using just the keyword phrase for the URL does not state what the blog is about as well as a URL that included other words around my keyword phrase. Therefore, I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to having other descriptive words around my keyword phrase in the URL or is a keyword phrase only URL best. For example, if my keyword phrase is 'dog training', which URL is best, if any? a) A keyword prase only URL such as http://blogs.ebay.com/dogtraining or b) A more descriptive keyword URL such as http://blogs.ebay.com/tipsondogtraining Does it make any difference? Is one stronger than the other? Thanks Jimbob
You do keyword research to obtain the keyword phrase that you want to go after. Two words are better than three, etc. It would be better to have .../dog-training than what you have. Look up the use of Hyphens in the fourm
You may have a tough time coming up with a concrete answer for this one. Many people suggest breaking up the words with hyphens. People also say to avoid using too many hyphens. If it was me, I would probably go for dog-training or dog-training-tips. I would also do keyword research to see which gets searched more often and which has less competition. You also want to avoid using too long a domain name. Not only would it be harder to type each time, but it would also be tougher for visitors to remember.
This is a subject, which has been blown out of proportion by SEO critics. The simple answer is, put the keyword that you want searched there.
Here is some more info. Find out which keyword or keyword phrase is being searched by browsers and use that one.
