Choosing Freelancers

When you choose a freelancer to work on your projects, how do you place importance on specific elements?

For instance, if you were to hire a freelance graphic designer, how would you rank:

    1. Past work quality
    2. Price
    3. Geographic Location
    4. Language
    5. Payment Terms
    6. Attitude/Friendliness
    7. Testimonials/References/Reviews
    8. Quality of their website
    9. Volume of past work (how large portfolio is)
    10. Their name

Just an informal poll - how do you weigh in? :D

I hire freelancers through Rent a coder and I always try to hire somebody who has very good ranking on the site and completed a lot of job. The rank is very important for the coders so you can be sure they will do their best because they don't want to get bad ranking.

    Past work quality
    Testimonials/References/Reviews
    Attitude/Friendliness
    Price

The four most important things in that list IMO.

It depends what project it is. If I'm looking for high quality work which I know will be amazing, then I'll look for someone with a good past record, but if I just need a small job doing quickly then 'price' would probably be the most important factor. Either way, the manner in which they represent themselves is up there. I won't give an application two looks if it is written poorly and contains loads of grammatical errors.

I think past work quality and the ability to deliver is more important, and then followed by price.

I don't really have a ranking, but I look closely at their attitude, and language, as well as their past work quality. I look at their attitude and language first, because I feel that it tells the most about people.

If they are freshers to the particular work we can give them a chance of giving sample works for free, they will do that for free you know, I have selected the people like that, They have a interest to know the new stuffs, So better we can choose people as freshers. . It's also just like giving them a chance at least. . isn't it?? :)

    Regards

Ask for a portfolio - or details of previous work they have done that you can check out, if their not prepared to give you this be very suspicious!

It all depends on how I feel about how the communication is going. Sometimes I just get a bad feeling about them, then I ask for references or samples. Sometimes I just know they are going to be a hit and typically have good results with them.

I think there's some of those threads floating around, but that's a good idea for a post on my blog. Thanks!

I am also working in a freelancing site for the last 5 years. I think communication skill, availalibility, and rich portfolio is enough.

For me i will rank the quality of their previous work and price.
Other element is not important for me especially if he is based on where in this world.

Find someone with a good reputation where you can look at previous work and comments from people
    who have hired them.

I know this may sound risky, but I tend to go by my gut feeling after reading everything about them. I know it can be hard trying to find the best freelancer.

I choose a freelancer based on three categories

Most important : Past work quality, Price, Payment Terms, Attitude/Friendliness

Important : Testimonials/References/Reviews, Quality of their website, Language

Not important : Their name, Geographic Location, Volume of past work (how large portfolio is)
