Just trying to learn what I can about SEO. I know a few things, but learn something new every day. Could someone advise... When choosing a domain name, I found 2 available domains; one is just the plural of the other (bluewidget.com and bluewidgets.com). Both are reported by Overture as having about 2000-3000 searches per month on the terms "blue widget" and "blue widgets". All other things being equal, would it be better to register and develop the singular or the plural? Or does it matter? And the more important question... Why? Any help would be appreciated as I have a million blue widgets that I need to unload. Chris
my understanding is that Overture does not do plurals so trying to work out which is best, singular or plural, using Overture is difficult i am not sure how you relsolve the issue of which one is better using Overture except may be a bit of common sense ie. which one are people most likely to use in search engines, the singular version or the plural version? you might also want to see how many hits Google returns for the singular and the plural ... this is usually the way to see how much competition a keyword has and it may help you decide which way to go serge
Thanks Serge, And to complicate things further, the actual domains available are "widgetsblue.com" and "widgetblue.com" as opposed to "bluewidgets.com" and "bluewidget.com" The terms that someone would speak in English are reversed. Just guessing, I would say that 85-90% of people would prefer to hear and/or say "blue widgets" instead of "widgets blue". Does that matter? Chris
i believe that it does, 'blue widget', bluewidget', 'blue widgets', 'bluewidgets', 'widgetblue',...are all different keywords from an SEO point of view one way around is to come out and say on your site something like 'if you are looking for blue widgets, blue widgets or widget blue, then you have come to the right place...' serge
I would keep it singular. I also read in an seo book that it is also a wise idea to use dashes between the words, like Blue-Widget or Blue-Widgets. I guess the search engine sees them as two separate words.
