Choosing a website/forum topic?

I was planning on making an Australian Reptile related forum, as there are only three others and they're all fairly successful.

However 'reptile forum' only gets a few searches per day. So is this a good choice for a website or will it just fail dramatically?

What suggestions do you have for topic selection? I know to do something that I'm interested in. But I'm only really interested in two or three things, and they all have really low searches.

I know that Crocodile Hunter (Steve Irwin) was super popular all around the world. His shows still air on Animal Planet.

There are a couple of other guys I have seen on T.V. that do well with dealing with reptiles and animals. There is something about watching a person deal with a scary possibly deadly reptile that attracts attention.

Alligator wrestling is a sport in some places.

My ideas for names is to have something that attracts attention: reptile hunter, crocodile man, reptile wrestlers, reptileforum, snake hunter, snake trainer

If you have a passion on the topic, then why not give it a try? Give it a couple of months, if you do not like how things are going, try a different niche.

The most important thing to picking a topic, is to pick something that you enjoy doing.
