Chitika announces Design Changes, 10% Bonus and Coming features.

    There's an announcement at the Chitika Blog about some changes that they've made which are in respose to 'curiosity clicks' (clicks on ads that didn't convert). They've made some changes to the design of the ad to combat this which will unfortunately lead to lower CTR. Disappointing but I suspect for the long term profitability of us all it's probably neccessary.

    They also announced a two week 10% bonus for all publishers which is nice and a couple of new features:

    1. An option to set alternate urls
    2. Geo targeting: Visitors from UK will see matching deals from UK merchants.

    a 10% bonus, so they're only taking a 30% cut? Admirable.

    Only for a couple of weeks though. Still, those making a killing from Chitika will have a little Christmas bonus to enojoy I suppose.

    Lower CTR? Is that possible?

    CTR on the Chitika was low in the first place... I hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the Chitika boom. I've noticed some sites have already dropped their chitika ads out.

    If you look at the default ad format on the Chitika homepage you'll see that the description and link are different colours. The problem is how do you get your ad to do that? I'm using the following code to specify colours for title and text:

    ch_color_title = "#336600";
    ch_color_text = "#330033";
    Code (markup):
    What do you need to do to make the title and description different colours?

    Why do you care what other people do.. I have always contended it is good for some placements on some sites.

    Some people seem to think they need to keep throwing all their eggs into the same basket and they run around picking up new eggs and throwing the old ones away.

    There are places where chitika will do well and often better than things like Adsense. But just replacing all your adsense placements with chitika would never have been a good move for 99.99% of the publishers out there.

    I'm going to drop them too. The payout and CTR has gone from low to pathetic. If I get real bored I may revisit the issue and keep trying to optimize things, but for now I have other more profitable fish to fry.

    I just had my best chitika day ever yesterday. Finally got the stats and it is better by 100% than my previously best day. Even with a 10% bonus it was still very good.

    I did notice one of my referals did not run ads yesterday for the first time.

    I'll keep it around, but only because the minimum payout is so low. Heck if it pulls in an extra 50-100 bucks, it's worth maybe a tiny spot somewhere.

    Looks like problogger.net just moved his ads around to be featured in some or all of his posts.
