I wouldn't say that china is really isolating from the rest of the world. Remember, just 30 years ago the country was in fairly bad shape (think the 'cultural' revolution just prior) - but overtime has become more and more open. I see the people in china benefiting from the growth of the economy and doing better and better. Keep in mind, comparing china to the west is not feasible and really won't get us anything accomplished - as china has its' own set of problems and management issues. I can only imagine trying to police and control (to some degree) 1,300,000,000++ people (1.3billion+!)...

That is like saying Communism will go international because ....

I just does not make a lot of sense. Internationally a lot of people will be opposed to Baidu for what it represents not for what it can offer.

I guess the situation is critical due to the problem with censorship. No other nation that has search engines and and other programs that are situated in the USA have this problem, so you have to take a look at the fact that the Internet is supposed to be a source of freedom for Everyone. I feel bad for the modern day Chinese that they have to suffer with what their government has taken on in censorship? What are they afraid of, that people may find out about the rest of the world?

Actually most chinese are using proxies, so they know about the outside world haha ;). While I can see why the chinese government is afraid, I don't see how censorship really helps (agreement with you) since most of the users are going through proxies anyhow and not waiting around for the firewalls. Probably best for them to tone it down a bit and really come to a middle point.

Not suprising.... will happen to most foreign internet companies in CHina.

Government policies favor local Chinese companies and actively push out the expats.

You would have to be an idiot as a foreigner to start up something in CHina

While this is true for china, ironically it's also true for some EU countries. Try starting a factory in france as an outsider, that'll give you something to think about (gov regulation/unions etc).

While they do favor local business (which country doesn't?), they are definitely NOT trying to remove all int companies. The google issue was for sure shameful, but, in the long run, Google will be back. :)

The problem is "information is power". That's why it's very normal for their government have very sensitive issue regarding how information is distributed. Just IMHO, CMIIW.
