I don't think the focus should be on banning certain foods, but rather increasing the amount of excercise that kids get. What do you think?

I think you should let kids decide for themselves.

I agree with this partially. I have seen a couple of shows of Jamie Oliver.
He is a chef cook and owns a couple of restaurants, published some books about cooking and even does complete cooking shows.

He was very succesfull at a very young age and still is.

Now in this show he shows how improvements can be made about the school dining cafeterias and i must say the kids of today are poisining themself with all that junk/trash food.

    Total garbage man.

So Jamie tries to get some real nutricion and food into these cafeterias by introducing all sort of new menus that the schools can make for the children.
He teaches the cafeteria staff how to make certain dishes and menus and he does a great job doing so.

Some kids, well a lot actually are very hesitant to eat healthy food at first...like it's fucking poison or something. LOL i saw even one kid that pulled his nose up for chicken, he didn't even wanted to tast it at first.

    Just ridiculous!

Gradually they started to (they as in a majority of the whole school) to eat the dishes Jamie prepared together with the staff.
Obesity is going out of control in the States because of children letting them decide what to eat for themself.
If it was up to them they would be eating mcDonalds every lunch hour.

This should be taken more seriously because otherwise the becoming generation will be more unhealthy with some major health concerns.

It would be very irresponsable and inconsiderate to let them decide for themself.
Not totally denying them a hamburger or some other trash food but merely not giving them the oportunity to let them eat everyday this kind of junk and garbage.

At least in the school diners. You can't control what is going outdoors in the brake time but for god sakes man...don't let them stuff themself with all that junk everyday.

I seen a special on tv about this. Instead of serving the children prison/military food (that is what it is) they were served only healthy food. Now this school was a special school, it was for bad kids that have been thrown out of other schools and had no where else to go.

So they ended up saying that the food dramatically changed the kids around with their grades/behavior but if there is any truth to that who knows.

I think kids should have an option between healthy/junk food to eat. If they make the wrong decision then its their/parents fault. But to make the students eat what they feel they should eat is wrong.

I used to be really fat as some of you know.. I think most of that was cause at a VERY early age I was told I always had to eat this or that...

Now I eat 10 times a day but small portions. Even when I see my parents they are still like... You are going to spoil your dinner.

I tell them look I eat a lot and often and thats much more healthier then 3 HUGE meals a day

    Healthy food is
    1. More expensive
    2. Something that kids hate

But the positive changes by eating healthy food is
    1. Better behaviour and increase of happiness
    2. Better grades due to more effective thinking

Exercises is good for your health, but not as effective as a healthy diet.

Just giving the kids healthy food in school will probably not do much, since many kids will refuse to eat it. The kids are used with french fries and big macs from the home. Switching such behaviour is not easy.

Where should the money come from? My suggestion is less computers, less TV screens and less expensive materials of other kinds. There's much technology in the school, but it's rarely used to something important, educational.

Shoemoney, I eat 3 or 4 times a day, and I feel great.

You have done a great job getting thinner then by looking at the pics you posted before and on your blog!
Did you accomplish that only by spreading out your meals over the day?

I've heard that you should wait 3 hours between meals so that you have time to digest the previous meal. Otherwise you can get heartburn and acid reflux disease eventually.

With more than 50% of the population overweight, choice, obviously isn't working. Especially for young children who don't realize the consequences.

I agree, but not when it comes to kids. They don't have any responsibillity of that. Their parents might have, but if they don't care then whos going to do that?

The schools could take an extra tarriff from the parents, to pay off some healthy expensive food(so the government doesn't have to pay). Or instead of spending money on useless computers and TV screens(which is not good for kids and the kids got too much of that at home), they can spend the money on food.

but cheaper in the long run than the various medical ops like triple bypasses, etc :p

This I can attest to. By eating healthier Im able to focus more at work and think quicker, plus Im less brooding and confrontational and am of a better disposition all-round :)

well, there i'd agree and disagree. They are both important and go in tandem. You can have one without the other, but you won't be getting the most out of either if you dont do both

True. I was stubborn as well, until I found out my cholesterol was through the roof. Then I realised that I needed to change things. I think that junk food can become psychologically addictive in a way, because of the taste or sugar or whatnot, because I still get cravings for various sugary stuff even though i havent touched them in over 4 months.

If Big Doug is brave enough to post a shirtless pic of himself on DP I guess I can be as well...

I'm still gaining back my bulk but here is me from last week... I'm still about 1/2 the strength I used to be before I started partying to much :( but am getting back there...This is after only about 3-4 months of working out lifting weights..

Eating right, having a good workout routine and some supplements work wonders...;)
