Chess site - logo design - $20

Hi all,

I have a new chess site that needs a logo, and I have $20 to spend on it. I am looking for something with a web 2.0 style design, simple, clean and that has a point to it. The name of the site is chess8, and the whole idea is for it to be a site frequently updated with new chess strategies, openings advice, tactics, and opening books.

I currently don't have a slogan or anything in mind, so it if you can think of anything that would be good.

This contest will finish in 48 hours, as I am only active on weekends. It may be extended if I see fit.

I have no real limitations on the logo, just be creative, make it chess related and have fun with it.

Nice work slayer, looks good. My only real criticism would be that 5 pieces is too many. If that was fixed, then there is nothing that I can really pick on with the design.

I would like to see more designs from any other talented graphic artists.

All I can say is wow, there are some really good designs here. So far my favourite ones are crowquill's and slayer's with the 5 pieces. I like them both for the clean design and the colour scheme.

My advice for randomintellections is to have a design that is simple, web 2.0 ish and with no fancy fonts. I want the ability to display the logo in a fairly small format, so anything too detailed won't work.

For Slayer, I think it is a great logo, and I now like the look of it with five pieces. Not much you can improve on.

For tanujdude91, I don't really like the design in general, mainly because of the style the drawing is in as I am looking for something bold and out there. Also the pipe and magnifying glass makes it look very old.

For Kingsmart, I don't really like the pieces, and it needs to bolder and more simple in design. I like your slogan though.

For Coolwanz, nothing is really standing out at me like your last design for me did.

For Jboo14, nothing really stands out at me, I know I asked for something simple, but it seems a bit too simple and boring.

For rhamm1320, It's good but I hate that font. Something bold and simple would improve the design a lot. I would also be very interested to see if you can put a knight into the logo in the same style as a pawn.

For crowquill, I love the design, not much I can fault you on but I don't like the slogan, which is no worry at the moment.
