Cheques sent to US?

    Hi guys,

Have a slightly sticky situation here. I'm from Singapore, and I might need to send some cheques to the US to numerous people.

Thing is, sending it via regular mail might take upwards of 2weeks, and I'm looking for any service that could send the cheques for me, and me paying them. Also, would be good if they could personalize the check with some design/graphics.

Anyone know of such a service and can hook me up?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

Well, one thing you could do is use an alternative payment methods probably like Paypal, the funds transfer is almost instantaneous.

You could look and sending the checks through airmail which normally takes about 7 days to get to the US from Singapore, at least from my experience.

Alternatively, you can take a look at http://www.travelex.com/sg/business/CFX/IP_products.asp?content=ip . They may be able to help you.

Yeah I do know Paypal. I also know they take a rather 'hefty' % base off the amount sent.

I was just wondering if cheques would cost less over the long run. Sending them via air-mail would cost more than Paypal too, so looking if there was some kinda online service based in US that could do that for me. (eg: i deposit $X with them, and when they issue a cheque for me, minus it from that account)

Cheques technically cost more because of the bank service charges and time it takes to clear.

If you send a Singapore-Dollar cheques from Singapore, it will cost you almost nothing to send it but the one who received it would need to wait at least a month to get it cleared and also pay hefty fees getting it cleared as it would be levied by the US and Singapore banks.

If you send a US-Dollar cheque drawn on a US Bank, ie an International Bank Draft, that would cost you money too but it would shorten the time the cheques would be cleared.

Paypal cost you next to nothing to send apart from the foreign exchange fees (if you remit in US$ from a Singapore Credit Card) as the receipents would be the ones who would be paying for any paypal fees. If you send them in Singapore Dollars, it will cost you nothing and the receipient would pay the foreign exchange fees. Paypal is instantaneous and your customers would be sure they get their money.

Mailing a cheque would mean that you need to rely on the postage service. In the end, when it comes to business, you will need to incur some cost.

The US does offer personalized checks but you will need to be in the US to open a bank account.
