The title isn't really descriptive but I really don't know what to use as a title. This is from a quite recent experience at my directory. Quite recently I crosslinked some categories, just checked if they appear correctly at that was it. The weird thing is that after that while my traffic was increasing submissions were decreasing. It never occured to me that it might have something to do with the recently crosslinked categories. Wrong. You see on the submit page I used to have a category tree where submitters could choose their desired category. However it appears that the fact that I added the crosslinks was slowing a lot the loading of the category tree. It would load eventually but a lot of people would get timeouts. I never noticed since there is no real reason for me to visit the submit page. Since I removed it submissions are coming back to normal levels. What I actually want to say is, once in a while it might be wise to go through the submission process at your directories submitting a test site just to check if everything is fine.
I do it all the time, and this is definately some good advice to any and all people who are running a directory, or two or three or twelve I actually have one set to not work because of the garbage I was getting. ++ Rob
sure, and having a contact page is a must for people to report any problem. few people will bother to report a problem thru a submission page..
