checking serps for inner page optimizing

    I am working on building key word serps for one of my inner pages found here:
    www.mysite.com/inner page...

    To check my rankings for this key word that i am optimizing for, will typing in my main url work or do i need to type in the inner page url?

    i guess i just wanna know if i should be optimizing the combo "dog training" for my home page url, or my actual dog training url which is an inner page on my site.
