Checking for Backlink

I recently plan to spend some budget on article writing and submission to develop some links. However, when I tried to check the articles found in some articles sites (which seems popular and exist for years), it seems that even most older articles are not generating any backlink for the sites in resource box.

I am using the following search:
    link:http://www.domain-name-appear-in-article.com/

    Also:
    link:http://www.google.com/
    - return only 141,000 links, a number much smaller than what I imagine.

Can someone enlighten me as to what has changed? Or the "link:" option no longer work?

Your best bet is to use Yahoo! Site Explorer. That provides exact backlinks and gives a bit more information than a simple Google search can tell you.

Try Yahoo Site Explorer. It's the best free tool for this info.

Yeah - G doesn't show much. They still count the links though.

I'd go for Yahoo explorer. But I think the link: function still works.
