    Hi, there,

I checked 000webhost.com. Free, no ad. Even pay affiliate money. Just wonder how can they earn money ?

    Is anyone their customer ?

    Thanks in advance!

It's the google ads on their site that earns them money.

I didn't really care about their affiliate program, but their free hosting is quite good with cpanel and good reliability.

I don't know this host, but I know quite a lot about freehosts; this host exists only for a few months (see Alexa.com) ; it is normal for a freehost to be fast and cool after a few months. Wait 3-6 months more; no matter what the owner says; it probably is gone somewhere in that period. Cool if it is not, but most freehosts don't have a plan to make money and sure as hell Adsense on the site pages isn't enough to pay for real traffic which will be surging through it when it relaly gets popular.

A free host which exists longer than 6 months and is still fast will pull in more than 1000 of new members a day (if done right); the servers will be slow and dying and you'll be (as you probably don't have a capable admin) calling your hosting company daily, there will be hundreds and hundreds of support questions a day and there will be some 10-100 cease-and-desist letters from companies and lawyers every day for phishing, copyright violation etc.

If hosted in the US, your provider will probably kill it (see, for instance, http://www.007ihost.com/), as those companies are all afraid of getting sued.

If this hoster can make it for 6-9 months they actually found a way to be profitable with a free host ; this is possible and in fact quite simple, but most do not know how. Free hosting is a great moneymaker, but only a small % know how to do it and can do; they become large and sometimes even huge.

In 99% of all free hosts; the free host will sell after a few months on sitepoint, make a fat profit with the sale and a few weeks, maybe a month, later the host will disappear and die.

This is only experience speaking; I analyzed all free hosts sold on SP and DP in the last 18 months to find ways of making money with free hosting. I found different ways of doing it and I would bet 000webhost is not making any profit currently.

Even worse; they pay affiliates... Never saw that before on a free host ;0

It they are doing upgrading as moneymaker, they might think they are making profit because they don't know yet that there is a bizarre fraud % compared to other upgrade schemes.

I hope I am wrong; I really like free hosting :) It is a great business and I enjoy it very much. I wish them all the luck in the world making it work.

you are absolutely correct, maximum free hosting sites simply has lot of downtime, i myself has faced this problems with many free hosting sites. thats the reason why i decided to go for paid hosting, atleast there wont be a downtime issue.

You get what you pay for, but yes there is a (large) market for free hosts; most sites would run very well on an *established* free host. One that is at least older than a year and still has a very active community / forum.

Big sites like this; http://freetube.110mb.com/ and even company sites and so on run on established freehosts like 110mb.com that do keep their promises and help their customers. Most sites sold here and on SP would be fine and dandy running on such a host as they often, when they are older, are just as robust as the younger paid hosts which advertise their hosting services here for next to nothing. Like I said above; it the freehost proves it can sustain itself for a longer period of time and still grow, it is probably fine to use it.

It all depends on your purposes; for hosting small sites I often use free hosts; and, according to my monitoring, they have more or less the same characteristics as my smaller paid hosting accounts; note that I use only free hosts older than 1.5 years.
