I have developed a nice looking website with lots of potential. It's a charitable classifieds site that I just opened a few weeks ago and it gets about 400 uniques a day, just from self promotion, but I'm looking for ways to up that. Anyone have any ideas? I think it's well designed and it has many of the functions that sites like Craigslist does not have. One simple way could be to put an tell-a-friend script in the members area. You can even offer them a gift if they tell X amount of friends. 5,10,20 etc. Not sure if that technique is applicable for your type of site, but I'm sure it would work. You want to make it viral as many ways as you can. Jason
i have something like that already on the site. it's kind of hard given what type of niche I am in and the type of people I should be targetting
I think it will be a good idea if you can get your banner on a popular classifieds site. I'm sure many people putting their ads there would want to put an ad on your site too.

hi partyboy.... here are some cheapest ways. 1: Submit site to directories. u can fine cheap submission service, those do manually. it also good for seo. and PR. 2:myspace.com firnedlist. buy a bot and add friends. 3:google adwords is very cheap. thing is, you get a click and vistor on site. then your site worth will stop him on you site and he will return. I have explored many of the options that you've guys suggested. I am curious about buying banners on other classifieds site. That is something I haven't done but I am running on a very tight budget, I'll see how that goes
