I suggest you need to focus on service quality/ price not only on the price, I suggest Godaddy I've been with them for a while they offer a good quality service, in terms of price you can get down to $1.99 for a".com" domain name using promo codes , but you need to use your credit card rather than your paypal account.

Godaddy does have some of the cheapest domain names but that is only for first year. I see alot of people switch after they have domain name for a year.

hostgator remains the best hosting company by far for me, you pay about $7/month but it worth it in terms of customer service.

Godaddy has a horrible service in terms of domain names and service plans. You'll better off with somebody else.

While you may be able to get a domain at GoDaddy for $1.99 (w/ coupon), there are plenty more factors to think about than just the base price.

Below is how GoDaddy compares with the two other registrars mentioned above, Name.com and NameCheap with just two factors included.
GoDaddy w/ Coupon Base Price: $1.99
    Name.com: $8.99
    NameCheap: $9.69
(Note - You can get coupon discounts with both Name.com and NameCheap. All three may give discount for multi-year registers.)

Do you want a WHOIS protection to hide your personal information from being public?
    -GoDaddy: $8.99/yr
    -Name.com: Free/yr
    -NameCheap: Free 1st year, $2.88/yr

    One Year Total
    -GoDaddy: $10.98
    -Name.com: $8.99
    -NameCheap: $9.69

Will you be using this registrar for more than one year? If so, you have to factor in renewal fees.
    -GoDaddy: $10.69
    -Name.com: $8.99
    -NameCheap: $9.69

Two, Three Year Total w Whois Protection
    -GoDaddy: $30.66, $50.34
    -Name.com: $17.98, $26.97
    -NameCheap: $22.26, $34.83

Two, Three Year Total w/o Whois Protection
    -GoDaddy: $12.69, $23.37
    -Name.com: $17.98, $26.97
    -NameCheap: $19.38, $29.07
