Cheapest Private Domain Registration Service?

We used to use private registration but Godaddy charges so much and we have so many domains we decided not to.

Do any other registrars offer a cheaper version, like say $1 per domain per year?

1and1.com has free private registration included with their $5.99 domains BUT I would be VERY CAREFUL with this company as I have purchased domains and had them snagged from under me... even after I had been given the whole "thanks for your order" message. Also, they are the absolute worst company to deal with when it comes to customer service.

Other than that - they're cheap. Although I have found it much more cost-effective using GoDaddy as I've used them for years and never had Domains "mysteriously" lost after buying them...

Namecheap offers it for free now as part of their promotion. After the year is up, it should cost you something like $7.88 for 5 private registration.

Yep, namecheap is the way to go for this. With a coupon code you get a new domain and whoisguard for $7.99.

Use MORE4LESS as the coupon to get the 10% discount.

And somewhere I have the coupon code to use on renewals.

Namecheap is the only one to go with.
Easy from the start to the finish.
    Unlike godaddy.

At RegisterFly privacy is for free with new domain names purchase, otherwise 99 cents a year for existing or transferred domains.

3 days ago I tried to register in excess of 50 domain names with RegisterFly. After going through all the necessary steps, I paid with my VISA card. Suddenly I get a message that I have to email their email to ask them why my credit card is being denied. This has never happened to me before and I have made many online purchases. So like a good girl, I emailed them right away. Tonight I got the email back from their risk department - bounced. While I was waiting for a response from them at that email address, I emailed them from their site's 'contact' form last night. Nothing. Came home from work tonight and tried to get onto their 'live' 24/7 support chat. Waited 'on-hold' for 30 minutes. Nothing. So I logged into my account and sent a support ticket. Jack-sh1t back until now. Absolutely, without a doubt, the most unprofessional, useless, waste-of-space company I have ever dealt with. If they worked for me, I'd fire the whole useless lot of them and smack them around with something wet and nasty (dog poo comes to mind!) Go with NameCheap. Their prices are average, their control panel is great and I get very fast customer service response, although some of the people working for them seem to be smoking too much crack on occasion. But........better a crack-smoker that solves your problem that a crack-smoker who doesn't! :p
