Cheapest place to register a .io domain?

For a new project I'd like to get a .io domain (it's a domain hack, because the word is ending in io, kind of like scorp.io or b.io )

Registration fees on .io domains are pretty high though, and according to RegRates.com the cheapest registration costs $39/year at Gandi. They only have 7 registrars on the site comparing .io domains, so I was wondering if anyone here knows a better place thats maybe not on regrates? Also does anyone know if there are restrictions for owning a .io domain?

Hands down you want to go with Namecheap. The info in this thread is outdated. Not only do they now have .io domains available for registration, they are priced at just under $33, and that is including a (cheap) SSL certificate.
Especially compared to sites like Godaddy ($60), and Name.com ($90!!), Namecheap is an incredible bargain.

I don't know how they do it, but they are definitely going to be your cheapest option for a .io domain
