i need to buy 12 .com domains, possibly with whois protection.

    what's the cheapest company ?

    namecheap asks for 8.88 $ ... other 6.99 .. 4.95 .. but
    with no whois protection.

    any ideas ?

You can get GoDaddy .com's for $6.95 each and if you get more than 3 in an order, free private registration comes with it :).

    Reps appreciated :).

Godaddy price seems cheaper, you can even get some discount using their promo code, I think.

    Cheapest is netfirms. :)

But I still consider GoDaddy as cheap domain registration provider.

I recommend Netfirms.... they provide domains for $4.95 with Domain Privacy.. renewal at $9.95 you may transfer that to GoDaddy before it expires as GoDaddy renews for $6.95 or so.

Yes Yahoo! Domains is good but its not always $1.95 there its available during promotions also you may consider http://www.domainsarefree.com/ there the domains costs only $3.99 but no domian privacy I guess. It belongs to Globat.com there it costs $4.99.

I found a place where COMS and other extensions are only $3.99.

The drawback is that such registrar is Globat partner, hence hosting-related, check it out, www.domainsarefree.com
